Alternatively, one can decide to quit smoking by avoiding the use of cigarettes for a period of eight to twelve weeks, and this way that does not involve smoking cessation products (Marianne, 2011).

There are challenges involved in breaking the psychological and physiological dependence on cigarettes since smoking is perceived as a substantial tool for fulfilling significant emotional and social roles (Segan, Borland, Hannan & Stillman, 2008). On the other hand, there is a great deal of stress involved in using alternatives for quitting smoking, since there are events that can trigger urges to smoking and people with a conviction that smoking works compared to the new coping strategies, are at a higher chance of relapsing.
