"Meaning of Racial Disparity and its Importance" is a wonderful example of a paper on social and family issues. Racial or ethnic disparity refers to differences within populations that are based on people’s races or ethnic groups. The disparities may be with respect to the vulnerability of ethnic groups or races to adverse environmental factors such as diseases. They may also be based on the groups’ ability to respond to intervention measures against those factors (Edberg 165).

Racial or ethnic diversity is an important issue because of the association between ethnic or racial diversity and the required approaches to meeting the care needs of the diverse population. This is because each race would require a specialized care approach towards the management of healthcare problems. More races would therefore mean the need for more specialized approaches. It also means that the knowledge of diversity is necessary for understanding how to meet the care needs of each race or ethnic group. An understanding of racial or ethnic disparity is also important because people’s well-being largely relies on their races. This factor identifies high vulnerabilities to certain diseases by ethnic minorities, and an understanding of ethnic diversity and factors that contributes to ethnic-based vulnerabilities is essential in care management (Edberg 165).

Some of the key factors contributing to these disparities

Some of the key factors that contribute to racial or ethnic disparities, according to task force findings, include “cancer, cardiovascular disease and stroke, chemical dependency, diabetes, homicide, and accidents” (Edberg 166). The factors contribute to the disparities because of the different rates at which minority ethnic groups respond to health care improvement programs. This is because some groups respond faster than others do to initiate differences in average health conditions by ethnic groups (Edberg 166).
