"Sexually Transmitted Infections: Gonorrhea" is a great example of a paper on infections. Sexually transmitted infections are communicated through sexual contact with an infected person. Microorganisms like bacteria, viruses, or fungi cause infections that include syphilis, hepatitis, and gonorrhea. This paper discusses gonorrhea.

Gonorrhea is caused by a bacterium, Neisseria gonorrhoeae or gonococcus, and infects the urethra and vagina. There are several signs and symptoms that identify the infection and these include vaginal discharge with a foul smell, retention of urine due to constriction in the urethra as well as feeling pain when urinating. Discharge of a yellow foul containing pus from the urine, swollen and painful joints, pelvic infection, and sterility, especially in females are other symptoms of gonorrhea (NHS Choice 1).

Gonorrhea can be transmitted in various ways but its major mode of transmission is through sexual intercourse with an infected partner. An infected mother can as well spread it during the birth of an infant. When this happens, a possible consequence is that the infant can become blind when infected. Sharing of personal items such as bathing towels with an infected person can also transmit the bacterium. However, the infection can be controlled by proper and consistent use of strategies for safe sex and avoiding sexual intercourse with victims of the infection. Other management strategies include treating an infected person using recommended antibiotics and avoiding sharing personal items such as towels. Symptoms may persist after treatment and a patient who notes this should seek further medical advice (CDC 1).

Gonorrhea, just like many other infections, can be prevented or controlled when discovered earlier.
