            Just as Tang, Meyer, and Eisenberg (2004) observe, the Federal Government plays very critical and manifold fundamental roles in fostering public health. The federal government: regulates the healthcare markets and professional activities therein; developing and evaluating health technologies and practices; purchases healthcare; monitors the quality of healthcare services and products being provided; purchases healthcare; guarantees and strengthens access to quality healthcare services for susceptible populations; grants healthcare;  regulates the healthcare markets; facilitates the acquisition of new knowledge; inform healthcare decision-makers and stakeholders, and convenes stakeholders across the healthcare system. The above can be taken to mean that the federal government’s role and existence are inextricably integral to the dispensation of public health.  

            Definitely, the public health efforts are worth the tax dollars that people pay for. This is because public health is a social good or public service which requires the input of the government to ensure equitability, standardization of quality, efficiency and to abate chances for consumer exploitation. In order for these duties to be exacted, it is important that government efforts and duties are funded, yet the government cannot fund itself. It is therefore expedient that the public is taxed for the roles and duties the government discharges to guarantee the reality of public health. People may contend for the reduction of public health tax but it is untenable to imagine a functional government outside taxation.
