"Respiratory Disease: Tuberculosis" is a perfect example of a paper on infections.  Tuberculosis is one of the common respiratory diseases that are prevalent worldwide. Its prevalence has escalated due to HIV/AIDS that causes immunosuppression of the body, making it easy for opportunistic infections like tuberculosis to infect an individual (WHO, 2013). Tuberculosis is spread through air droplets from one person to another making it to be a secondary type of disease.

Tuberculosis has brought with it a lot of challenges in the community ranging from social to economic. The disease has brought with it stigmatization that has crippled those individuals who are having the disease. Due to the ease with which the disease is spread, people usually do not want to come closer to those persons who are suffering from TB. Moreover, those who are under medical care are often isolated from other patients whether it is in the wards or outpatients. This method of handling TB patients usually stigmatizes them in society even after they have finished treatment. In some societies, people tend to give them some names that are demeaning thus lowering the culprit's esteem making them remain in isolation (Zumla, et al., 2013).

Tuberculosis has created a strain in healthcare in that TB drugs are very expensive and are offered free in the public hospital. The money used to fund the drugs could have been used to buy other screening machines otherwise to help in the early detection of diseases. Moreover, that individual who is bedridden due to TB does not go to work thus lowering the overall economic growth of a society. In the business of health care, TB has made an impact since many private hospitals and other healthcare institutions make a lot of money on the test that they carry out for suspected TB clients. However, the development of multiple drug-resistant TB has led to research in Healthcare to get other alternative better TB drugs (Lawn & Zumla, 2011)
