"Botulism in Argentina" is an outstanding example of a paper on infections. It is insightful to know that timely care and intervention can help save many people from succumbing to foodborne botulism. I have understood that drooping eyelids, double vision, and respiratory problems are some of the symptoms to look out for in diagnosing the illness. I would have to be systematic and exhaustive in diagnosing the illness in order not to miss important symptoms or label a case as another illness when it is not. I have understood that it is important to sensitize the public through the press about a possible botulism outbreak. The press release would need to tell the public what signs and symptoms to watch out for, the incubation period of the illness, its causes, and the ways to prevent catching the infection (Stehr-Green 4).

I had difficulty grasping the process of generating a hypothesis that can help map a botulism outbreak case but the activity was insightful. I have learned that the timelines, places, and the food type taken around the time that a patient could have caught the infection are important in generating such a hypothesis. Interviews and questionnaires are the techniques that I have learned that can help in conducting a cohort study in investigating a possible botulism outbreak case. Through this assignment, I have learnt that an environmental health assessment is important in examining possibly infected food. Finally and importantly, I have learned that there is a need to make the response intervention to botulism outbreak comprehensive. As such, an effective response intervention should provide antitoxins, channels of distributing antitoxins, ways of reporting possible subsequent cases, and ways of confirming suspect case (Stehr-Green 21).
