"The Increasing Role of the Pharmacist" is a wonderful example of a paper on the health system. This article discusses the increasing role of the pharmacist and the benefits he would have on the healthcare system. Pharmacists now more than ever are working together with health care physicians especially doctors for the benefit of the patients. The pharmacist can prescribe medications and make a diagnosis from the patient in some state (Gorman par 3). This is important to reduce the workload of the health facilities where the majority of the patients seek their health care. California is among the few states that have granted pharmacists such kind of power. Other states are following to the toes i.e. Mexico and North California

This comes at a time when many Americans leaving healthcare to the doctor. Doctors are overloaded and overburdened and sometimes end up making wrong prescriptions to the patients. The pharmacist's role comes into being, and many are now looking to the pharmacist for help. However, the pharmacists have pointed out that they are eager to replace the role of the physician, but rather they want to be utilized in a better manner. If the physician works together with the pharmacist, both can save money and improve on the health outcomes. Working together is beneficial. An extra eye looks at the patient's profile and investigates the outcomes. Pharmacists are increasingly providing direct and one on one quality care to their patients (Gorman par 3).

I have to agree on so many things in this article. I like the idea of pharmacists being involved more in the healthcare system. As the pharmacist describes their role, ‘they do not get eight years of training just to put pills in a bottle. It is a cool thought that doctors are able to prescribe medications with the doctor’s approval. However, they do not need the doctor’s approval to do so. If pharmacists are allowed to do this, then they will tremendously improve the quality of health care.
