The healthcare systems have focused on the cure for disease rather than the prevention of the disease. However, with the evolving healthcare systems, there are significant changes that need to be engaged to shift to preventative strategies as they have proven to be more important. Various entities will have their role to play in the shift, and the implementation of the new strategies will better the health care, thus improving the overall health of the community. The government, healthcare personnel, nurses, and the community have roles in healthcare reform (Alderwick et al, 2020). This paper discusses healthcare reform, creating a deeper understanding of the role of the nurses towards healthcare reform.

As physicians play a significant role in disease prevention, patients need to be held accountable individually. The patients are accountable for the behaviors that expose them to the risk of contracting certain diseases. To improve the healthcare results, escalate life expectancy, and the kid mortality tolls, there need to be advancements in healthy living behaviors rather than spending large amounts of money treating chronic preventable illnesses. However, the prevention has economic effects on the states, yet it is much more cost-friendly than the amounts spent on the medical costs.

Every person needs to keep track of personal health risks. Every person needs to understand the family history and possible health effects. When a person knows his risks, he can make changes to affect them. It is also vital that every person changes to amend risks with the understanding that body fitness and diet are vital towards healthy diets. Everyone needs to take into account the behaviors that pose health risks such as smoking to avoid them as a measure to improve our health by making healthy choices. Also, engaging with the healthcare providers and creating long terms relations play a part in making a significant difference in improved health status and outcomes.

Role of nursing

The nurses play various roles in health care reform. They use evidence-based research and recommendation to improve the health of the patients. They serve as catalysts for healthier lifestyles. They encourage and teach their patients about the measures and healthy behaviors by providing preventative services such as screening. The nurses encourage healthy behaviors by educating their patients, mentorship, as well as leadership.

The nurses work in various venues encouraging healthiness and disease prevention. They are also recognized as caring professionals and strong promoters for the clients as they steer the care structure. They offer consultations in societies and organizations by defining healthy living practices and engaging in community growth for the citizens who live there (Verma et al, 2017). They work with the patients closely, providing them with proactive guidance on vaccinations, nourishment, dietary, treatments, and safety. It places them at the front line in healthcare reforms.

The nurses can also influence and educate the public on then healthy behaviors. They are the best entities to perform health promotion tasks by enhancing the quality of life of all people by accessing individual and community needs. The nurses play a significant role in breaking down barriers such as communication and stereotyping. They are equipped with active listening abilities, clarification, and reflection to help overcome and avoid some of these barriers when promoting a healthier lifestyle (Mechanick, & Kushner, 2016). They can focus on prevention as it is reflected as a measure of their professional growth development. They help promote healthy living in the organization and the community by monitoring the safety risks in the workstation, community, and family.
