"Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test: Ritchie Metcalf Case" is an outstanding example of a paper on addiction.
As a nurse, I will use the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) that involves a ten-item screening tool designed by the WHO to assess the rate of alcohol consumption, alcohol-related problems, and alcohol drinking behavior. For this case, both a nurse-admitted version consists of page one, followed by a self-report version that constitutes page two.

Assessment questions asked during alcohol screening.

Below are some of the assessment questions that I will ask Richie concerning his alcohol use. First and foremost, I will ask him if he is experiencing any carving form for alcohol, the drinking act by any chance of getting drunk?  Are you thinking of drinking all the time? Lastly, I will ask Richie if he has ever thought of coming out from his alcoholic consumption levels (Myerholtz & Rosenberg, 2010).

Principal Action

When consumed within the alcohol combination, it results in a significant physical reaction that might involve nausea, heart palpitations as well s flushing conditions.

It aids in the blockage of the opiate receptors that participate in the rewarding effects of drinking and the craving process.

It is sometimes thought to aid in reducing symptoms through imbalance contraction that might occur between the glutamatergic and the GABAergic systems that are in close association with chronic alcohol exposure and withdrawal syndrome.

Why I recommend Naltrexone for Ritchie

I will choose Naltrexone for Ritchie because it looks so useful for the attenuating craving processes within the individual who is seriously craving alcohol. It helps in blocking the cravings, and it might assist in the enhancement of the patient's ability to refrain from the drinking habit. The patients abstain from the drinking habit when the Naltrexone blocks the drinking habit's pleasure. In some instances, it might also assist in reducing that might involve heavy drinking habits within the people who drink too much.

Prescribing information of Naltrexone for Ritchie

There are special considerations for prescribing Naltrexone for Ritchie because its medication has virtually not recorded any records of abuse. The patients also do not establish tolerance towards its efficacy. I will specify to Ritchie that Naltrexone should be, therefore, consumed in the following manner. It comes in the form of an injection or a pill. The ReVia, which is the medicine, can be consumed once a day at50 mg. The Vivitrol, which h is the injectable extended-release part of the drug, should be applied at 380 mg once a month. It can be prescribed to reduce the risk associated with the withdrawal effects whereby the patients are urged to abstain from taking illegal opioids treatments for about 7-10 days (Rollason, Samer, Piguet,  Dayer & Desmeules, 2008).

Support groups that Ritchie and Sandra can attend

Ritchie should attend the Alcoholic support groups. The support group can help impact Ritchie’s brain circuity, where it can help in the disruption of thoughts, memory formation, emotions, and impulse control. The addiction treatment can, therefore, aid in the physical and emotional support of Ritchie's life. On the other hand, Sandra should join a community-based rehabilitation group that can help form self-help groups that can help people with drinking challenges. Contingency management therapy will be ideal for Ritchie because it will help him understand his patterns and develop better coping behavior. However, when he copses well, there are tangible gifts that he can be rewarded, such as vouchers, to help restore positive behavioral changes.
