Practice guidance and current legislation have been used in the UK to establish certain common practices in various sectors including on supporting homelessness, people with disability, and care at old age, Early Years Foundation Stage as well as those with various health conditions in general. In this essay, the focus will be on those guidance practices and current legislation that focus on supporting people with various health conditions.

There are a number of practice guidance and legislations that have been enacted to support people with various health conditions. To begin with, the government of the UK has enacted a Health and Safety at Work Act of 1974 which covers a wide range of issues relating to workplace and health care that cuts across different sectors. This Act has enforcement powers and that can result in prison sentences as well as fines to those who go against it.

Secondly, there the Act on Control of Substances Hazardous to Health that was enacted in 2002. This piece of legislation is applied mostly in the health care sector where regulation is applied to the cleaning materials and medications considered to be dangerous if not properly used. Those who provide care to people with various health conditions are required by this regulation to protect staff and those using their services from various harm through ensuring proper storage of potentially dangerous substances. The regulation also requires that staff that uses dangerous substances should be properly trained on their usage.

There’s another regulation that was established on Reporting of Injuries, Disease and Dangerous Occurrences Regulation of 1995. The law applies mainly to the workplace regulation where it expects those charged with the responsibility to report the death as well as serious health care condition, occupational diseases, and accidents to the Health and Safety Department. Failure to do so may land them into serious reprimand.

A set of clinical guidelines have also been developed to improve the service delivery quality of patient care within the National part of the UK such as England and Wales (RCN, 2014). The clinical guidelines were developed by the RCN in collaboration with other stakeholders including the patient advocacy groups, health care practitioners as well as other professional bodies. Some clinical guidelines were developed by the National Collaboration Center for Nursing and Supportive Care. This body was based on the RCN. The main objective of the guidelines was to improve quality services provided to those seeking care for various health conditions.

There are various changes that have been made to the Health and Social Care Act for better provision of services to people with various health conditions. There has been a shift in the responsibilities that were initially believed to be located at the Department of Health to the newly established body believed to be politically independent known as the NHS Commissioning Board to NHS England. There has also been the creation of the health-specific economic regulator, whose mandate is to guard against anti-competitive practices. All these changes are basically aimed at protecting the rights as well as improving the condition and wellbeing of people with various health care conditions.
