"Recent Trends in Management of Hypertension" is a brilliant example of a paper on diabetes mellitus.
Recent studies have shown that their high blood pressure is a very common co-morbidity in patients with Diabetes.(Pick-up & Williams,1993)It has been noted that hypertension is more common in patients with diabetes than those who do not have diabetes. Also, studies have shown that stroke, kidney failure, and heart diseases are a major cause of death in diabetic patients and that hypertension only makes this case worse for a patient with high blood sugar levels. (Vincent, 2010). Therefore, strict control of hypertension reduces significantly, the risks of the complications associated with diabetes-related deaths. Therefore it is important to note that a patient with diabetes should try to maintain blood pressure at 130/80mmHg. Treatment of hypertension and diabetes include awareness, treatment, and control. Administration of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors reduces kidney failure and heart attack deaths and these medications are regularly used to manage health in patients with both diabetes and high blood pressure. Other agents of controlling these two conditions when they co-exist are beta-blockers and calcium channel blockers. (Carroll,2009) Also, lifestyle changes are advised to maintain this condition, including reducing weight, a patient must stop smoking and also control of lipid in the blood should be emphasized to reduce risks associated with complications of diabetes like cardiovascular disease. ( Rhoden & Schein,2010)

High blood pressure is more prevalent in African Americans than in Hispanic Americans. Also, the development of pressure-related organ injuries like heart attacks and the co-morbidity of hypertension and diabetes is still more common in African Americans. The control rate of blood pressure is also low in this group, especially in men than in all other major ethnic groups. Studies have also shown that prognosis is also lower, making high blood pressure take a high death toll in African Americans than Hispanic Americans. (Bodenheimer& Grumbach,2009)

The purpose of this study is to shed more light on the risks associated with high blood pressure when it co-exists diabetes. There is a problem in the management of these two especially in the African Americans and more studies should be done particularly in this group to find if what exactly makes this group more vulnerable.

The importance of this project is to show that for many reasons these two diseases affect the African Americans and new strategies should be developed and implemented. It also controls hypertension greatly improves health and reduction of pressure and diabetic-related risks in racial health disparities that vastly affect the African American population.

From the information in this proposal and the information obtained from literature reviews, it is clear that the African American population is mostly affected and therefore different factors should be considered when developing a system of intervention. More studies should be done on this specific population and also creating awareness and providing education about these diseases and their management will help in the management of hypertension and diabetes
