The perspective of global health and medicine is changing with every passing day. Researchers all over the world are working tirelessly to fight epidemics and diseases – whether it is to fight the Ebola virus pandemic situation in African countries a year back or the recent Swine Flu attack in many parts of India. The prime goal of the researchers and doctors is to defeat the disease and make it is a healthy world, which they are doing with total commitment and dedication.
My performance for the quiz
To be precise, my performance for the quiz was not very good as I did not know the answers for more than 5 questions in the quiz. The questions are very effective and every individual should aware of the facts (De Angelis et al., 2004). More awareness and knowledge about global healthcare and medicine can help us learn more about the same.
Surprise Answers
Out of the 10 questions, the answers to Questions 1 and 2 are the greatest surprises. Though the funding of the United States for global health programs is less than 1% of the federal budget in 2012, which is $8.8 billion; the United States government is the one that provided the largest amount of funding in 2009 to address global health challenges all over the world. This shows that the United States is not just the leading economy in the world but it shows empathy and leads by example for the betterment of world health and most of its funding goes to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria (WHO Report, 2011).
Learning
The quiz prepared by Kathleen Sebelius is a great source of learning in terms of global health. It is because of the quiz that new facts get surfaced which helped me understand in what position global health is (Heymann, 2011). One learning that is a key takeaway is that countries in Africa are the country that receives the most of the funding. Being the third world, Africa was always deprived of many grants in the past but the scenario has changed.
Usage of the awareness
The new level of awareness should be used not only to increase your own knowledge base but also to share it with a bigger group so that more people can share knowledge and raise awareness. I will try to inform as many friends and associates as possible so that they can also spread the knowledge. Social media is the best platform to share knowledge and make people take action. A great example is how the fire of change in Egypt to end the rule of Hosni Mubarak, was promoted and shared on Facebook and Twitter in 2013 (Hafez, 2014).
Problems faced by the developing world
There is not just one problem that the developing world faces; it ranges from health issues to economic development (Minkler, 2012). However, three of the most important ones are the uneven pattern of development, impediments to economic development and unfriendly development policies. The uneven developmental pattern is clearly visible as the richer people getting richer and poorer getting poorer. Impediments to economic development are evident from excessive population growth, resource limitations, inefficient use of resources, inadequate infrastructure, insufficient domestic saving, high foreign debt, excessive government intervention, and institutional and cultural patterns, this makes economic growth difficult.
Conclusion
With every passing day, global healthcare and its viewpoint are changing (Stuckler et al., 2009). Talented doctors, researchers, NGOs, and others are tirelessly spending their time and life so that people all over the world can get a better life that is disease-free and healthy. It is not only the work of the respective fraternity – it is the responsibility for us as well to spread the awareness to a larger community so that our world becomes a beautiful place to live in through promotion and support of safe and advanced healthcare practices.
