The King’s Fund,2012. Leadership and engagement for improvement in the NHS: together we can. London: The King’s Fund.

The report raises various issues concerning leadership in the NHS.  New leadership is seen as a panacea to the current challenges facing the organization. The report notes that leadership should be based on a team and not just one person. The success of leaders is tied to their ability to involve others. The other crucial thing for a successful lead is an acknowledgment and allowing the participation of other members. The attributes have been shown to be the basis for a successful health care system.

Various changes are needed in the NHS in order to be able to achieve reforms. However, the changes need to occur at a certain level.  Such changes can only be achieved by having leaders that allow a strong linkage between patients and workers.  Moreover, innovation is crucial for success to occur.  The NHS Commissioning Board and Leadership Academy are needed to lay a platform for such leaders.  On the other hand, the NHS needs to respect and offer help in leadership on various plans.

It is clear in this report that collaborative leadership leads to success.  It is the role of the NHS to ensure that success is maintained for many years in any care setup.

NHS Improvement (2012). First steps towards quality improvement : a simple guide to improving services. Leicester : NHS Improvement.

There are two crucial entities in health care. The two are patients and carers.  Hence, carers and patients should be treated with the utmost respect. Respect can only be achieved through service improvements and reshaping taking into consideration users and carers.  Involvement will help in getting immediate feedback. Patient comments on the service can play a significant role in informing whether any change is effective to care. Comment from patients can help in showing the best ways needs can be met and hence patients can be able to reap maximally from effective care.

Lobbying plays a crucial role in the care sector. It provides a platform for raising concerns about issues affecting health care and focus on influencing elected leaders.  It does not matter one’s background in raising concerns to the elected representatives especially on changes that can influence care in a negative way.  An elected leader is obligated to observe all views and send them to the house.  Hence, direct interaction with elected leaders can play a role in raising awareness of ‘Save our NHS Promotion’.
