Movie Character Health Assessment Presentation al Affiliation Movie Character Health Assessment Presentation Overview of Presentation This paper conducts a functional health assessment of a movie character It will be based on a character chosen from stepmom film The paper will assess observed or potential cultural, geographic, religious, ethnic, or spiritual considerations of this client It will assess two normal health patterns and develop an appropriate nursing diagnosis It will identify two possible resources or community services to refer the client to Background of Movie and Character Movie Stepmom is a film about cancer The biological mother and stepmother of two kids battle to be in their lives The discovery that the biological mother has cancer changes the relationship (Columbus, 1998). Character The character chosen for the assessment is Jacky Harrison She is the biological mother of the 2 children She discovers that she is terminally ill with cancer (Columbus, 1998). Stepmom is a film about two strong, independent women who have different characters and personalities but must find a way to connect. One man, Luke who is Jacky’s ex-husband and Isabel’s current husband is the link between the two women. When Jackie discovers she is terminally ill and Isabels relationship with Luke becomes serious, the two women realize they must put aside their differences to save a family. Jacky is the mother to the two children while Isabel is the stepmother (Columbus, 1998). Functional Assessments Health Perception/Health Management Health history Has been normal Does not use cigarettes or drugs Does not perform self-exams Reported swelling of lymphs in the neck, armpit and groin Reported high temperature and fever Nutrition/Metabolic Takes normal portions of food. Takes fluids such as water and juice. Drinks a minimum of 4 glasses of water daily Has normal appetite Does not breastfeed Has no skin or dental problems Pattern of Elimination Skin is moist, Oral mucous membranes are normal, Teeth is normal Temperature sometimes high especially at night, No dental problems Assessment continued Pattern of Activity/Exercise Is a stay home mum. Exercises regularly and has sufficient energy for required activities such as cooking and cleaning the house Goes outdoors with family Conceptual/Perceptual Pattern Makes decisions on her own, can engage in arguments, understands and follows directions. All five senses working normally Pattern of Sleep and Rest Has normal sleep apart from high temperatures and sweating in certain instances Sleeps for at least 8 hours In terms of the health perception/health management, the client has a normal health history. She does not have illnesses apart from the lymphoma. She has been normal for the most of her life, does not use cigarettes or drugs, does not perform self-exams. She reported swelling of lymphs in the neck, armpit and groin, high temperature and fever, which are signs of lymphoma. In terms of nutrition, the client takes normal portions of food, fluids such as water and juice. Drinks a minimum of four glasses of water daily. She has a normal appetite and eats normally. With respect to pattern of elimination, she has normal skin, oral mucous membranes and teeth. She engages in activity especially home chores since she is a stay-home mom showing that she is strong. She goes out with kids as exercise, rides horses too. She is well aware of her surrounding; her personal space and can make her own decisions. Assessment continued Pattern of Self Perception and Self Concept Patient feels good most of the time Body changed with illness limiting the activities she could do Feels disappointed with the divorce issue and husband remarrying. Role/Relationship Patterns Lives with family (2 kids, ex-husband, and ex-husband’s new wife) Family supporting of the illness Sexuality/Reproductive Patterns Not sexually active since divorce No use of contraception Assessment complete Pattern of Coping and Stress Tolerance Divorce Was hard to cope but has managed to cope. Pattern of Values and Beliefs Generally gets things she wants Religion is not so important She has a normal sleep and rest pattern, she does not have nightmares and does not have trouble in getting sleep. She has a minimum sleep time of 8 hours per day. With regard to self-perception and concept, the patient feels good and confident about herself most of the time. Her body is normal despite the symptoms of lymphoma. She was initially stressed about the issue of divorce and a stepmother coming to take care of her children but has learned to live with the present condition. She had a sour relationship with Isabela, her ex-husbands current wife but they learnt to live together with the family. Jacky is not sexually active since her divorce. Analysis of Health Assessment Normal assessment findings the client has normal eyes, can see clearly, hear very well and has normal physical attributes Abnormal or risk-based findings No abnormal or risk based findings observed Additional observations Cultural The client believes in the traditional values of family where there is the father, mother and children. She believes that the mother has a central place in the lives of children especially when young Geographical The geographical setting of the client is urban area in the USA Religious Client is not religious Ethnic Client did not reveal her ethnic background Spiritual Client not spiritual In terms of normal assessment findings, the patient has normal physical organs such as eyes, ears, nose and mouth. The client believes in the traditional values of family where there is the father, mother and children. She believes that the mother has a central place in the lives of children especially when young. She client is from urban USA and did not reveal her ethnicity. She is not religious. Nursing considerations Nursing Diagnosis Patient has Lymphoma Interventions chemotherapy immunological therapy stem cell transplantation Resources American Cancer society Group Health cancer support group Conclusion This paper is a functional health assessment of Jacky, a character in Stepmom film She has lymphoma, a type of cancer She was diagnosed as terminally ill Apart from cancer, Jacky has a normal health assessment record She has family with two children and ex-husband In terms of nursing diagnosis, the patient has lymphoma. This form of cancer cannot be prevented because its cause is not known. However, it can be managed through different means such as chemotherapy, immunological therapy and stem cell transplantation. The American Cancer Society and Group Health cancer support group are some of the resources that can provide help to the client. American Cancer Society provides patient services while Group Health provides weekly support sessions. In conclusion, this paper as done a functional health assessment of Jacky, a character in Stepmom film who has lymphoma, a type of cancer. She has family with two children and ex-husband. She was diagnosed as terminally ill. Before the cancer, Jacky had a normal health assessment record (Columbus, 1998).
