Interviews are conducted for different purposes. It can either be made to solicit information to substantiate research, know more about a candidate, or the ailment of a healthcare patient. Regardless of the context, the interview is still one of the most reliable sources of eliciting information from a source either for doing research or treating a patient. 

The most common use of interviews that encompasses varying endeavors is its reliability to become a sound basis for any scholarly undertaking particularly in getting primary data from a reliable source. Through interviews, primary data are gathered directly from the source whereby clarification, follow-up, and feedback can immediately be had making it a reliable source of soliciting valuable information.  For the interview, however, to become useful, it must follow certain procedures and protocols for such information to be used in evidence-based reports.  In the context of health care administration, it could also be used in the proper administration of care to the patient.  In both cases, a transcript of the interview must be kept for record, and later analysis such as those provided by the University of the West of England when a nurse conducts an interview with a patient must be kept (2014). 

In the context of research be it in the field of healthcare research or any scholarly inquiry, the information was given by the interviewee to make sense and useful, an analysis must be made after a transcript is made to record the interview.  According to Vogel, Analysis is “the process of moving from raw interviews to evidence-based interpretations that are the foundation for published reports. Analysis entails classifying, comparing, weighing, and combining original material to extract the meaning and implications, to reveal patterns, or to stitch together descriptions of events and processes into a coherent narrative” (2005 pg. 2).  This interview analysis report however is made in the context of researchers constructing a report that reflects the expert perspective of the interviewee based on the research question. 

In health care administration cases, the interview is also made to know more about the situation of the patient so that the treatment would be more effective.   In this case, interview analysis would be more qualitative as the information solicited would be coming primarily from the patient’s point of view.  Thus, this subjective nature of the interview poses some issues which is the trustworthiness of the data, credibility, transferability dependability, and confirmability (the University of the West of England b, 2014).  To establish the trustworthiness of the analysis, there should be a long engagement with the respondent and/or subject.  This engagement should include a triangulation analysis of data which means cross-examination of data to establish validity.  It also includes a collection of related data either to support or refute the content of the analysis.  The process and result of the interview should also be auditable yielding the same similar result to establish its confirmability making the interview analysis valid and scientific in making a report.  Having a reliable interview analysis makes the treatment more effective whereby the process of intervention can be replicated in similar cases in the future with other patients which can be gleaned from the previous interview analysis report.
