Extract of sample "Sickle Cell Anemia"

"Sickle Cell Anemia" is a wonderful example of a paper on the cardiovascular system. The category of illnesses that come due to the misshapen of red blood cells is referred to as sickle cell disease. The most common type of sickle cell is anemia. Presently, there is no treatment for the disease but there are precautions that are observed to prevent a crisis in the sickle cells (Harris, 2001). There are also various treatments that can get applied during a painful crisis.  Patients are subjects to tolerance, addiction, and also dependant on the medications. There are also beliefs on the control of the disease using alternative therapies; therefore, qualitative research could determine the best method to offer treatment.

Discussion

Qualitative research is a procedure to enquire about data and can get applied in various fields of study (Maxwell, 2007).  Qualitative research enables researchers to have a deep understanding of individual behavior as well as the reasons that govern such behavior. There are various steps in qualitative research that needs to get observed, the researcher should begin by determining the topic to get researched on and the primary concepts. The strategy that should be followed should also get formulated. It includes the means of recording information such as notes or videos and also the ethical issues to observe such as confidentiality and privacy of participants. The next step is to select the participants who are the primary sources of information.  A relationship should also be developed with the participants so as to have confidence in the research. Information requires to be analyzed and finally interpretation of the data (Maxwell, 2007).

Qualitative analysis has its strengths as well as weaknesses. The benefit of the procedure is that it can obtain in-depth information about the topic. Another benefit associated with the method is flexibility; researchers can have diverse questions for the participants. The research is also not expensive compared to other methods (Maxwell, 2007). Qualitative research is associated with several weaknesses. Statistical descriptions of a large number of people cannot be achieved using qualitative research. Reliability is also another major issue in qualitative research; the method cannot be fully dependent. Qualitative research can get applied in the study of pain by having patients suffering from sickle cells in an interview (Peterson, 2009).

Qualitative interview indicates that patients who experience treatment in the medical facilities have little or no respect to the patients (Harris, 2001).  There is also no trust between patients and medical practitioners. Qualitative research can generate wrong data when wrong participants are involved. Some people also do not give accurate information (Peterson, 2009).

The audience for the presentation could be people suffering from sickle cell. The patient should have understood that the cause of hospitalization is pain. The consequences of the pain related to sickle cell anemia are substantial and affect both the health care facility and the patient.  The audience should understand the emergence of   PCMH (patient-centered medical home). They provide various opportunities to improve sickle cell disease management (Peterson, 2009).

Conclusion

Patients with sickle cell anemia continue to face various challenges despite modern innovations. In the present landscape of health policies, there are further efforts to improve SCD pain management.
