"Newborn Care Safety" is a worthy example of a paper on child development.
Newborns are perfect in every way. They have all their body parts and in most cases the normal functioning of the body. Becoming a new mother is not easy as one is in charge of a new life and is charged with the responsibility of taking care of a new life (Jana and Shu, 2005). One of the best ways to take care of newborns is by ensuring that their nasal passages have been cleared to ensure proper breathing. Stuffy nasal passages can make the newborns irritable since they only how to breathe through their nostrils. This explains why mothers should be taught how to make use of a bulb syringe before they leave the hospital.

Objectives and Goals

By the end of the lessons, the participants should be able to perform the following objectives. They should be able to identify the general characteristics of newborns. Secondly, they should be able to identify the procedures offered to mothers after delivery (Jana and Shu, 2005). Thirdly, they are taught how to use the nasal aspirator that is also known as the bulb syringe. Fourthly, the parents are also taught how to clean the nasal aspirator to ensure the baby’s safety. Finally, they are taught to identify when the baby’s nasal cavity is blocked and since the baby’s nasal passages are small it takes little mucus and swelling to result in congestion.

Methodology

After conducting the one-hour demonstration, the new mothers can return the bulb syringe care card if need be. If they feel that they still need the information on the brochures, they are allowed to borrow them. After the stay in the hospital nasal cavity is said to be free from congestion as well as infections (Jana and Shu, 2005). The teaching methods should focus on improving the patient’s knowledge.

Teaching Aids

Teaching aids are important in passing important information to the parents. The facilitator should use a stuffed animal or a doll to demonstrate the process if the infant is asleep. A brochure that has guidelines on how to use a bulb syringe is also highly important as it states the significant points on the process (Jana and Shu, 2005). The mothers can take the brochures home for future reference.

Needed Resources

There are various resources that are necessary for facilitating this process and they include The Healthy Beginnings Handout and Healthy Start for Baby and Me Handout. These resources contain the relevant guidelines for taking care of an infant.

Implementation

The facilitator will walk into the patient’s room, perform hand hygiene procedures by washing their hands, introduce themselves and ask the parents whether it is a good time to talk about the infants’ baby cord care. First, the facilitator will evaluate the patient’s baseline level of intellect, evaluate her previous experience, and support her for opening up about the new information (Jana and Shu, 2005). By pulling the chair to the level of the bed, that power differential between the patient and the caregiver is established. By giving evidence-based information facilitates credibility to the clinician’s professional duty.
