"Roles and Applications of Management Functions" is a worthy example of a paper on the health system.
The health care system integrates specialists from different fields who work together to attain a common objective of guaranteeing patients of their health. Health care management is at the center of ensuring that this objective is attained in the most efficient and effective way. In health care set up, the management performs four main functions. The functions of the management are organizing, planning, directing, coordinating, and budgeting. These roles of the management are discussed below in relation to health care institutions.

Discussion

Planning acts as one of the key roles of management in health care institutions. The manager makes the major strategic decisions of the hospital. When formulating the strategic plan the health care manager analyses both the internal and external factors that may affect the hospital’s performance (Langabeer, 2008). SWOT analysis of the organization is the most used tool for analyzing an institution such as a hospital. This involves the analysis of the strength, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats that the hospital is predisposed to and designing strategies for enhancing hospital performance is made better. When making the plans, the health care management starts by setting the objectives that they want to achieve, they develop the premise of the plan, set the plan period and limitations, formulate policies and strategies then appraise the feasibility of the plans before their implementation (McConnell, 2012).  Some of the plans made by the health care manager include expanding the services of the hospital, recruiting new staff, and opening new hospital branches.

The organization is another important role of the management. The organization deals with organizing the resources in the hospital to ensure that they are used for the common good of the health institution (McConnell, 2012). The organization includes such roles as determining the management structure of the health center and sub-dividing the health care center into different divisions. The manager also ensures that the hospital staff is harmonized. Management also achieves the reduction of the cost by eliminating all the unnecessary expenditures. In the health care institution, the managers organizing roles are used in defining activities and jobs, distributing activities, and balancing the responsibility and authority.

The health care managers play the directing role as one of their daily responsibility. Directing involves ensuring that all the members of the staff in the hospital have subordinated all their interests to that of the hospital (Lussier, 2015). Directing is executed through issuing commands for actions to be done, motivating the staff to do some tasks, and offering leadership within the institution. Heath care manager acts as the main source of guidance to the entire health center in the attainment of the center's mission and vision. The control function of the management ensures that duties are done correctly within the health care center. The manager establishes the performance standards that are in line with the hospital objectives. After formulating the standards, the manager then evaluates the job performance of hospital staff. The poor performance of the hospital staff is rewarded by set punishment while good performance is rewarded by the set privileges (Lussier, 2015).

Conclusion

Management plays a very crucial role in any organization. Other than executing their four main roles, the management acts as the role models within the institution. A health care manager ensures that the hospitals maintain the ethical practice. They also ensure that the hospital attendants are qualified to do their work. In brief, the diversity in the health care set up creates a coordination gap that can only be filled by the proper execution of management functions.
