"Advances in Communicable Disease Control" is a perfect example of a paper on the virus. Communicable diseases are some of the most prevalent diseases in the world. These diseases are transferred from one infected person to another through different mediums. Some communicable diseases are transferred by airborne viruses or bacteria. These are contagious diseases as they are likely to drastically deteriorate the health of a human being. Other communicable diseases are transferred through blood or the exchange of body fluids. Most of the diseases that are spread from one person to another or from animal to another are indicated as infections and contagious. Many governments in the world have been on the frontline in ensuring the communicable diseases are contained. In many instances, the government has to act in the shortest time to ensure the infections do not spread to a larger part of the population.

The most prevalent communicable diseases of the incumbent century are the Acquired Immune Deficiency syndrome. This disease is caused by the infestation of the human immunodeficiency virus. The virus attacks the immune system of the body. After the reduction of the CD4 cell count in the body, the human being is vulnerable to attacks (Heymann and American Public Health Association, 2004). As a counterattack to helping the infected people, there is a provision of antiretroviral drugs, which are commonly known as ARV. The second disease that has been noted in the United States and Canada is hepatitis. Viral hepatitis is a disease that is believed to cause over 75% of liver cancer. Presently, it is estimated that hepatitis B affects one person in every three. Therefore, a communicable disease should be controlled. Thirdly, there is the influenza virus. This is an airborne infection, which makes it a contagious disease that can spread to many people at a time. Apparently, to control the influenza virus, there is a need for international response and the flow of information. A perfect example is explained when the first incident of Swine flu was detected in Mexico. There was international correspondence from many parts of the world to reduce the spread of the disease. For instance, the United States and Canada were among the countries that suspended air transport to and from Mexico. Other communicable diseases include malaria, polio, and tuberculosis. As a fact, the United States government works in coordination with other governments, including Canada to control the spread of TB. This initiative has been effective as the diseases are managed and controlled. Without such an approach, the diseases would have affected a large percentage of the population. Similarly, the spread of diseases would have increased drastically.

The United States and Canada have undertaken various measures to control and manage communicable diseases. To begin with, many institutions have started awareness campaigns in the two countries. The government involves stakeholders to reduce the instances and effects of communicable diseases. Secondly, there is an initiative is where the government provides free vaccines and treatment (Acton, 2013). At some point, the population does not have enough resources to seek treatment. This could worsen the situation as many people can be adversely affected. Thirdly, Non-Governmental organizations are involved in campaigning against the spread of communicable diseases. For instance, many NGOs have been established to deal with the HIV/AIDS scourge. This has been effective as there has been a reduction in the number of new infections. Lastly, there are specialists in dedicated hospitals to deal with the situation. It is noted that specialists will have the right equipment to control the contagious disease. With such an approach, the United States and Canada have been on the frontline in ensuring the population is safe. Similarly, the two governments are overly concerned with new infections. Reduction of infections will enhance the health of the nations.
