I admire how people in these various professions have developed their skills, knowing they are ultimately going to put others’ lives before theirs. I have been told that I have a nurturing personality. This aspect of my persona is also a possible influence on my preferred career path as a medical laboratory technician.

Although I appreciate the work done by the front-liners such as doctors and nurses, I would like to be a medical laboratory technician, someone behind the scenes but equally important in health care delivery. I am interested in Biological Science and I would like to hone this curiosity into something useful that will influence the lives of others.

I have visited Ohio State Laboratory Service and was impressed by the efficiency of the staff. I am a housewife and have no work experience in this field. However, based on my research and conversations with medical laboratory technicians I have met due to family health visits, I understand that if I become an MLT, I have to be dedicated to the work and the working hours. My job directly affects the well-being of patients as laboratory results are often the basis of a doctor’s prognosis and diagnosis. There is no room for mistakes and as such a passion for order and detail must be present in me. I think my daily routine as a housewife and mother has instilled in me the kind of dedication I would need to be an efficient MLT.

I would consider it an honor to receive this grant for two reasons. First, this scholarship would mean the realization of my dream to have a career. It would provide the knowledge and training I would need to be a successful MLT without having to worry all the time if I will have enough money to continue my classes. Moreover, it would teach me to persevere and study well to maintain my scholarship status. Second, having the scholarship would make a difference for me and my family. I have a single-income family and I would like to be able to help out my husband by not being an additional expense to worry about.  In addition, once I get a degree, I will be in a position to help him provide for our family.

I am an excellent student as manifested by the grades I received in all my classes. I always work hard and strive to be the best at what I do. Should I be granted a scholarship, I assure the institution that I would honor this gift by always being an excellent student and paying forward the generosity shown to me.

Thank you and more power.
