This means that there is a delegation of duties and a line of command that exists in a healthcare setting. There are managers at the top who have to give instructions to their subordinates who hold low ranks in the organization. Some clinical officers and doctors have to supervise their juniors, who mostly include nurses and other junior staff. Each healthcare system comprises of several positions, and each position has a role to play for the betterment of the entire system. Various positions assist one another and make immense contributions to the success of the entire system (Burns et. al., 2012).

The provision of insurance services in a healthcare system can also be regarded as another characteristic that makes a healthcare system complex. There is complexity in understanding whether insurance services in a healthcare organization are provided by the private sector or the government. The complexity of a healthcare system in terms of providing insurance also emanates from the fact there exist differences when it comes to providing these services to children, aged, women, as well as various categories of employees. The role of labor unions in negotiating insurance plans for employees also contributes to the complexity of the healthcare system (Dewar, 2010).

The ability to solve conflicts can also be regarded as another characteristic that determines the complexity of a healthcare system. In most healthcare organizations, there is a high possibility for conflict between the employees themselves, as well as between the employees and the organization. However, the leadership in these organizations sets up desirable avenues and measures that will be used to manage conflicts. Another characteristic of a healthcare system that makes it complex includes the capacity to treat patients who suffer from multiple illnesses. Every healthcare system provides services to patients suffering from varying diseases. A healthcare system has all the necessary facilities needed to address the different illnesses that may be affecting patients. In this regard, therefore, a healthcare system can be considered as a complex system since it accommodates the needs of various employees (Burns et. al., 2012).
