Extract of sample "Social Isolation and Depression"

"Social Isolation and Depression" is a perfect example of a paper on depression. Considering that Ms. Fisher is sickly and is on and off the hospital, she requires daily monitoring, but her only daughter is not available since she lives in town. This leads to social isolation as she has no one to stay near her at the utmost time of need consequently leading to depression. As a result of these factors, the identified social isolation includes chronic alienation, mental disabilities, and personal grief.

Discussion

Chronic alienation is present since the daughter of Ms. Fisher lives away from her home. This implies that she has to fend for herself which is not favorable to her since she has chronic congestive heart failure hence requiring regular medical attention. Mental disability is an aspect of social isolation according to Smyer & Qualls (2007) as Ms. Fisher being 82 in terms of age is prone to mental diagnostics leading to mental disabilities. Personal grief is a social problem that leads to depression. This is because Ms. Fisher is old and ailing, is lonely since the daughter stays far from her. She has yielded to personal grief, and consequently depression.

Medical interventions

To meet the needs of Ms. Fisher who is the client, the Mountain Top Home Health evaluates the status of Cardio-pulmonary, the safety of the client’s home, and medication management. The hospital provides medical equipment, which delivers oxygen concentrators. The client also receives instructions on how to use the various health provisions since she stays alone. There are medical prescription given include Digoxin, Calan, and Lasix to administer and also provides a written order which helps her to continue other medical needs at home as seen in the study work of Smyer & Qualls (2007). A number of medications get to the clients to ensure her health stability since she suffers from chronic heart failure.

The rationale to follow so as to meet the intervention would include daily monitoring by the medical providers to ensure that the medication brought to the client gets administered appropriately. A house help would also be important to reduce boredom and depression while taking the client to the house for the aged would also be beneficial to avoid social isolation.
