John Hopkins Hospital Introduction John Hopkins hospital was opened in the year 1889, and four years later a medicine school was opened as a branch of the hospital. This is because the hospital wanted to combine research, teaching and taking care of patients. The aim of this combination was to expand the hospital to an international level for excellency and discovery. Currently, the hospital is known as Johns Hopkins medicine as an identity of its entire medical enterprise. The hospital comprises of physicians and scientists of the hospital’s medical school, professional and facilities that make up the board. The hospital’s system is worth 5 billion US dollars. Mission and Vision The mission aims at developing health standards of the community internationally by setting high standards in medical research, education and clinical practices (Chesney, 1958). The hospital is diverse and inclusive since it educates scientists, students taking medicine as a course and other health care professionals. John Hopkins conducts biomedical research; provide medicine to the patient and diagnoses human illness. The vision of John Hopkins is to offer intellectual discovery to a diverse and inclusive environment by educating people of ways that will improve their health. The hospital also has an agenda of providing medical leadership globally. Their core values are excellence, discovery, leadership and integrity. They also value diversity, inclusion, respect, and collegiality. Quality and Innovations The hospital has a goal of providing quality services to its clients and also becoming innovative in every aspect. They believe that quality and innovation help in the improvement of people lives in various ways. Therefore, it is no surprise that their mission is to improve health standards of the community, both locally and internationally (Chesney). The hospital has taken innovation in many forms by discovering certain types of medicine, performing surgeries that have never been performed and discovering medical combination that will treat a certain disease. The aim of their innovation is to find better ways of caring for their patients without putting their lives into danger. It became the first medical teaching school by opening the school of medicine four years later. This was the beginning of the unprecedented combination of patients care with the best research and medical education. Medical Innovations The hospital has put the introduction of new and better ways of treating patients as their priority. They were the first to conduct blue baby operation in the year 1944; they have also been outstanding in performing child heart surgery as well as discovery of better medicines for diagnosing HIV.
