In the current decade, the spread of HIV/AIDS has increased tremendously especially among the young generation. As a result, there has been increased awareness on how to overcome the pandemic. Despite this effort, little has been achieved in the fight against HIV/AIDs with the disease having various effects on the population, groups, and even different groups (Condon & Sinha, 2008).

One of the effects that HIV/AIDs have had is increased labor to health personnel. Since the discovery, of this pandemic, much labor has been required to cater to the sick people in the hospitals through medication and giving advice on how people can live a healthy life. The governments have been forced to employ more health personnel to cater to sick people. Massive resources that could have been spent in improving the overall health sector have been channeled towards purchasing retroviral drugs. In addition to this, a lot of funds have been set aside to be used in sensitizing people on the prevention methods and how to live a healthy life for those who have been infected (Way, 1994).

HIV/AIDs have increased burden to the family members, therefore, reducing their capability to provide labor for economic growth.  Sick people need special care from close family members As a result, a lot of time is being spent by these members when taking care of their sick kin members. This has had an overall effect on the whole United States population as economic growth has been hampered as a lot of time is spent outside the economic improvement activities. In addition, the death of people infected by HIV has increased burden to the family members as they leave behind children who need special care (Way, 1994).

The disease leads to the death of the working population in the United States. As a result, the country's economy is left staggering unable to fill the gaps that are left by the citizens who perish. The population left, therefore, had to struggle with the ailing economy. In addition to this, the government has to spend a lot of money on catering for sick people. This money could have been channeled to other sectors of the economy. This reduces its service delivery to its people (Way, 1994).

Since the discovery, of HIV/AIDs large number of non-governmental organizations, has erupted with their main aim being to campaign against HIV/AIDs. These groups could be participating in the growth of the American economy. They, therefore, spend a lot of capital that could have otherwise been spent in improving the living standards of the American people (Way, 1994).

Scientists are currently spending a lot of time trying to come up with a cure for this disease. These experts play a crucial role in coming up with ideas that are useful in spearheading the country’s economy. As a result, labor that could be used in generating new ideas, which could have seen improved living conditions of the American people have been diverted to researching on the cure and prevention of this deadly disease (Condon & Sinha, 2008).

HIV/AIDs have increased poverty among the affected people. Affected people use much of their funds to seek medication for HIV-related diseases which infect people with viruses due to their low immunity. This leaves them in a condition of extreme poverty (Condon & Sinha, 2008).

The upcoming trend in the nursing sector is that of neglect of those people who are infected by HIV. The attention that is given to people with other ailments is lacking to people who have HIV/AIDs. This trend is contributing much to the increased rate of HIV-related deaths.
