"Links between Ethics and Medicine" is a perfect example of a paper on medical ethics.
The term ethics has been known to refer to morality and more particularly to the moral principles that guide a given culture. In scenario E, the main issue is the decision about which risk level can be accepted in terms of the drugs being sold to various nations in the world. As per the scenario, there is the mentioning of the fact that the drugs by the name Dipyrone as well as antipyretic were being utilized worldwide in the 1950s through 1980s. However, the use of these medications was terminated in the industrialized nations while remaining in full use in the developing ones. Morally, this is not right since in both contexts humans are involved. Therefore, there is no way a drug can be safe in one nation and be otherwise in the other apart from minor variances in geographical locations and implications.
Drugs, while upholding ethics, should be ladled similarly regardless of the market they are to be sold and applied. Dipyrone’s drug marketing in the developing nations by drug companies is quite unethical and thus the marketing should cease. The lists available for the alternatives of Dipyrone drug does not necessarily mean that it is not essential or is unacceptable since it is harmful it only means that there are better options. This is since even with the alternatives, they also have their side effects. (Scenario E)
Multinational firms should discourage the practices that their suppliers indulge in. That is, they should discourage as much as possible the application of child labour to produce the products. Maybe they can apply the usage of campaigns or even boycott products they are sure to have used child labour to produce. In other words, they should campaign against the usage of child labour where possible.
Reebok or UNICEF, in curbing the application of child labour in their products’ production, should apply the rules applied by the movements against child labour. More so, they should apply past precedents and statutes to file cases in courts against the companies that apply child labour in the process of producing their products. They (UNICEF and Reebok) should also put incentives like awarding those firms that are applying legitimate labour to discourage them from using child labour in their processes.
A fair wage in a nation that is impoverished is that which is sustainable as well that caters for the basic needs of the workers. A wage’s fairness should be determined by considering the cost of living of the nations where it is being applied as well as how these wages are able to cater for the basic needs of the workers and therefore the income needs for the purposes of subsistence should be the aptest method to utilize.
The consumers do not have direct involvement in the perpetuation of application of bonded labour, child labour, as well as prison labour as per se. Therefore, the responsibility in the stoppage of these vices does not necessarily lie with them. However, if they have the knowledge that the labour applied is not legitimate they should report the issue to the responsible authorities or even boycott products produced through illegitimate labour.
