"Communicable Diseases" is an astonishing example of a paper on social and family issues.

I appreciate your suggestion but that is not in society’s best interest to quarantine everyone. People, in general, have a right. This right is to be free. Forcing those with communicable diseases to be quarantined to a specific area is not going to fix the issue. This is true since many may carry diseases such as the H1N1 without even knowing it. There is no way to quarantine those who are not showing any symptoms. “The virus is also said to change with each flu season”. (Jameel 2010) Since the virus can change with each season, new strains will develop that contain different symptoms. This means that the virus may not always be detectable.

Public health emergencies are an important topic in society. Doctors, scientists, and lawmakers must all come together in the event of a crisis and take necessary action to avoid a complete meltdown within society. This includes being prepared. Unfortunately, many of the preparedness rely on the physicians and the physician’s office. Physicians must take the necessary precautions and be aware of symptoms and treatment.

After the large outbreak that occurred in 2009 regarding the swine flu, literature has circulated that helps aid physicians with proper readiness. The literature helps prepare physicians and their offices with what steps need to take place to help fight a possible epidemic. “Literature encourages physicians to be informed, be vigilant, be ready, be accessible, be proactive, and finally be ready for business”. (Mackett 2009)

When physicians are properly informed and able to treat a possible epidemic the epidemic can likely be minimized and properly treated. Being prepared ahead of time can eliminate the need to take on drastic measures such as quarantine reservations and leper colonies.

Society is very willing to look out for the needs of others and help others. Educating and following simple procedures such as hand washing can stop the spread of disease.

Current society is far more advanced at dealing with communicable diseases since leprosy outbreaks. Society has developed better communication, technology, and awareness of the spread of germs. “Physicians are more compassionate toward those carrying communicable diseases than before, which allows society to share in the compassion”. (Bernard Lo, Mitchell H Katz 2009) This newfound compassion creates a sense of calmness and control during an outbreak situation which can likely help to better control the situation.

There is fairness within society toward those with serious communicable diseases. There are educational seminars, public mental focus groups, and choices about whether or not to receive treatment. Those with communicable diseases have many choices just like anyone else and society has made it the general public’s best interest to protect them. It is not just the one with the disease who is responsible to not spread the disease but the rest of the public who is responsible to be aware of symptoms and maintain proper preventative measures.

While I appreciate your concern regarding trying to stop epidemics from happening, that is not always possible. What is important is to know that physicians are readily equipped with proper procedures to prevent fatal outbreaks. These procedures help eliminate having to create quarantine colonies. The best thing to help you is to stay educated and take precautionary measures.
