Extract of sample "Childhood Obesity and Economy"

"Childhood Obesity and Economy" is a significant example of a paper on child development.
Childhood obesity has been taken to be a very serious public health problem all over the world/globe (across the world). The childhood obesity problem is having a great increase hence it is on a high rise while still affecting the developed and the undeveloped countries. Childhood obesity has recently increased at a more frightening rate as in 2010 children (under the age of five years) suffering from obesity were estimated to be over 42million and 35million out of these were said to be living in developed countries.

The relationship between ROI and evaluation

The evaluation which is normally a continuous process involves measuring changes that occur due to the institution of a measure against predefined objectives. In the case of obesity, the progress and success of solving the issue depend on the cost of the intended results, the cost of a different intervention so as to go from the obtained to the required results, the value of the obtained results as related to the intended results, and the relationship between the value of the required results and obtained results as noted by Paxon (2004).

Obesity in children is usually measured (determined) by using the BMI (body mass index) for the age percentiles. The BMI (body mass index) for age percentiles is said to be the best-favored method when measuring weight status in children since it is less labor-intensive compared to metrics like DXA that rely on radiographic or hydrodensitometry techniques. When determining a child’s BMI (body mass index) percentile, a child’s exact weight (in pounds or kilograms), height (in centimeters or inches) and age (birthdate) are needed; small errors in the measurements usually lead to large errors in the BMI (body mass index) calculation (Andersen 2003).

The ROI (return on investment) is based more on a plain set of straight objectives and the calculated results against the objectives. The ROI when dealing with childhood obesity may be measured by evaluating how much the intervention applied is effective in controlling weight and improving health in comparison to other alternative methods of intervention.  In other words, there should be an improvement in the child’s BMI index when a measure is taken to reduce weight and improve health as evaluated from time to time.

Importance of business skills for a leader to portray

A number of business skills can be applied when demonstrating the proposed change. These skills include the capability to sell out the idea that has been created. The ability to market the idea is essential and will be determined by the number of people who borrow the idea. The leader should be able to do a cost-benefit analysis when dealing with health issues such as childhood obesity, apart from determining ROI.

How to address any ambiguity and uncertainty arising from the leadership challenges

Challenges are inevitable and the manner in which they are handled determines the outcome of an intervention to cause a change in an established setup. In order to foster change successfully and overcome some challenges that may be experienced along the way, the leader should always communicate with those affected and members of their team (Center for Creative Leadership, Hannum, Martineau and Reinelt, 2007).
