Reflective Journal Part B Name: Course: Instructor: Institution: Date of Submission: B 1. Bill O’Reilly is a key Fox News newscaster. On 15th of this month, he was on the phone on his show talking about the military coup underway in Turkey. Bill used a direct style to inform the audience of his perspective on the issue radical Muslimism rising. The drastic Muslims revolt is distressing the Middle East, and with the U.S not taking its place, the war becomes more challenging. I would use the same style since informing people directly allows them to see and understand your perspective further. That is the style is functional in attaining the set goal of the reporting, which gets the people interested in the news been presented. http://insider.foxnews.com/2016/07/15/oreilly-reacts-turkey-coup-gingrich-proposal-deport-muslims-mike-pence B 2. Informative presentations provide facts regarding a certain issue, such as health that the audience needs to know. A persuasive presentation, on the other hand, is based on convincing the audience regarding adopting an opinion or performing an action. For instance, the informative presentation may occur when a news anchor informs the audience the need for eating well to avoid obesity due to the dangers it causes to the lifecycle of one. A persuasive production on the matching issue may arise once an anchor persuades the audience to eat well or certain foods to lose weight. B.3. I will compare between a news tv program and documentary. The News TV program captures newsbreaks, headline, and newscasts to inform the people regarding what is happening around them. It uses visual features to persuade and provide evidence to the audience of what the news regards. Documentaries, on the other hand, use visual images to support an audio comment that has been presented. The visual account of the documentary is sometimes based on pictures from years back to support what the anchors or authors are attempting to present. B 4. On Fox news with Maria she probes on the possibility of U.K leaving the Europe Market. The most effective part of the presentation is where the CEO of Microsoft provides an overview of why they are planning to invest in China. However, when the CEO says that China is about jobs not profit was not so presentable. That is; it occurs like he is trying to persuade those thinking of investing in China for profit, that it is not their market. The presentation would need to be improved since research has presented that China is a good and profitable market for businesses. http://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/2016/06/01/wilbur-ross-if-u-k-leaves-europe-it-will-be-madhouse.html B 5. The product I choose to introduce is oatmeal cereal. The cereal is a product that has a huge market and high profits, the five parts I would consider when presenting it to the market include: Product: when the audience understands the product, they gain an interest or lose interest in the product. Thus, when I inform about the product I intend to capture their attention. Price: the target markets are many and due to different perspectives on price, I would introduce it, presenting the dissimilar prices available in diverse markets, for different market segments. Thus, when each segment perceives it was considered in the production of the products, their interest in the product is captured. Promotion: it consists of presenting the benefits the target markets will encounter due to purchasing and consuming the products such as healthy and balanced diets. Distribution: it contains informing the market that the product is readily available in all retailers near them. Thus, attaining the product will not be a challenge for the consumers. Selling: It is the process I will constantly market the product to ensure sales are attained each day. B6. One of the major social issues that I would like to see change happening in is poverty. Poverty has been a key problem for many developing and developed countries in the world. To produce measurable gain, the motivation that needs to occur is to ensure everyone gets an education, as these will provide him or her with possibilities of jobs in the future leading to a rewarding life. Other persuasions would include promoting the re-use of products and encouraging advocacy from key leaders. More importantly, providing job opportunities to the poor will assist eliminate the problem. Currently, those well advanced in life with better lives have a 90% possibility of getting jobs when compared to those who are poor and less fortunate despite their school results. Therefore, giving equal opportunities to both poor and rich would assist in eliminating the problem of poverty in the world. B7. The principle of consensus works often. During marketing, some products use famous artists or leaders to promote the product. Most of these people are considered as innovators. Once the innovators purchase or present an interest in purchasing a product, the early adopters, early majority, late majority and laggards also follow the path. Thus, it is clear that a preceding group of people purchases a product since the group before purchased the item. Consequently, the consensus principle functionality is perceived. Most people, including me, are susceptible to this kind of persuasion, though it depends on the product. B8. The kars4kids is an advertisement that persuades people to donate their cars to children for future security. However, the advert has never been persuasive enough to convince me to donate my car to the group. The commercial uses more than one principle of persuasion to persuade the audience to purchase the service. None of the six principles are effective on me as an audience. To make the commercial more appealing and effective I would change several principles. The advert uses children as children are supposed to be easily likable. However, in this case, the children are not likable as they appear as ponds used by adults to make them donate cars. Thus, instead of using the children as ponds, I would encourage them to provide stories of how they would love to own cars. Additionally, the reciprocity issue should be eliminated whereby people feel like they need to donate their cars for tax reduction or holidays they will gain. The advert should present consistency where the people feel more persuaded that donating their cars is performing their social responsibility rather than helping the future of the children among other factors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8UV7SAhvG4 B9. Discontinuance is more challenging than deterrence. I think discontinuance is more challenging since it involves asking someone to stop doing a habit that they have acquired. Many people undergo therapy to discontinue a habit such as smoking or drinking alcohol since it is not easy to stop. However, deterrence is easy since all one needs are logical facts to persuade the audience not to try a drug or product. For instance, asking some to stop smoking who has already been smoking because it will harm him will be challenging. The individual will argue that smoking makes him calm down, relieves them of stress or that it has not harmed them until then. Thus, asking them to discontinue will be met with high resistance. However, for someone who has never smoked it is easy. That is; all one has to say is that smoking will harm their lungs, heart among other threats, which leads to the individual having more reasons not to try the habit. B10. I Think I have attained my level of needs to a position of love and belonging. Three years ago, I was not at this level since I felt I had only attained my needs up to the level of safety. In the future, I expect to improve my level of needs to attaining my self-esteem. I will increase my gains through becoming better at my profession, and in achieving my responsibilities, which will earn me respect from others and myself. B11. Persuasion can be ethical since sometimes people persuade others to certain behaviors or actions for their own good. For instance, persuading others to eat well or stop smoking is meant to help improve their life spans. However, not all persuasions are ethical. For instance, the persuasion to purchase some cars is all business inclined with the intention of profiting the company. Some persuasions such as coke drink commercials lie to people about the feeling of freshness or been loved when you consume the drink. It is unethical since consuming the drink will not give you the anticipated feeling. B12. I am a self-employed graphic designer; I focus in logo design among other copyrighted constituents such as websites and promotional material. I can deal your business an advanced resolution that will guarantee the goals of the business are met. I offer services at modest rates and are of high quality. Given 15 minutes of your time, I would present to you my portfolio and am sure you would not regret it. B13. Elevator speech for a lawyer for non-profit The speech is short, precise and very persuasive. The strengths occur as she presents her value and perspectives, which link with the fact that she is a non-profit lawyer. However, a fault of the discourse is observed after she smirks soon after remarking that she is saving the people who are saving the world. That is; the smile inhibits her message where the audience may see like she is trying to trick them. It is so upright to be factual. Thus, lack of presenting one evidence to support she is saving people saves the world, makes the speech weak. http://expressionsofexcellence.com/sample_elevator.html B14. It enhances our communication since when one understands it well they comprehend the colleague, client and the interaction to use to ensure everyone is comfortable in the communication process. More importantly, it ensures we understand the different forms of expression been presented that ca help one to know if the interaction is effective or boring. It supports verbal communication. B15. Time makes all the difference in the world to an individual based on how they use time. What I value most are relationships and family yet I do not spend so much time on investing in these relationships. I spend most of my time on doing work that is profitable for more money while creating a flexible career. The list does not match to what has more value in my life as much is spent on making money, and earning freedom. B16. In this information age, time has a high importance to the world. For instance, today, hospitals exchange information quickly, which assists in the decisions doctors make regarding helping and treating a patient. In businesses, e-mails have made time more utilized where information is sent and received faster than ever before, which presents that time today has high importance. Time is compared to money, showing it has a high value in the information age B17. The main assumption regarding non-verbal communication is that it has more value than verbal communication. That is; non-verbal interactions that steer to the presentation of a first impression, which leads to an outline of how the rest of the communication or interview will precede. Nonverbal communication if of high importance in verbal communication. B18. The media has a possibility of advertising the job to boosting a business or reducing the growth. Thus, to ensure the media assists in boosting the business I will give free products on the launching of the company through the media, which will create interested clients to trying out the business services and products. More importantly, I will involve some of the famous people in the area to assist in launching the business. The famous people as innovators and the power of the consensus principle will ensure to boost the growth of the business in the area. B20. When people have no idea what to do in a crisis situation, the situation magnifies. However, to deal with such challenges people should anticipate the possibility of the challenges and crisis that may occur and plan on how to handle the crisis if they occurred. Having such crisis emergency handling plans eliminates the danger of a crisis magnifying and the possibility of effective management of a crisis. B21. Self-disclosure in businesses is important since it creates trust among the individuals leading to effective business promotion strategies. In other cases such as Tony, it harms the business. For instance, Tony Hayward apology due to the gulf oil spill was more focused on his discomfit rather than the people harmed. Consequently, he lost clients and trust from consumers easily. However, someone like Nolan Ryan whose personal story showed he understood the pain related to the death of the young father while trying to catch the foul ball. Consequently, he earned the trust of the people of Texas due to such self-disclosure. https://hbr.org/2012/06/instantaneous-intimacy-skillfu/ B22. The employment interview is important for the interviewer since it assists in gauging the potential benefit a candidate would provide to the certain business. To the interviewee, it shapes them and informs them on what to expect in the other interview, which may help them gain more knowledge on how to behave or answer questions. The employment interview provides important information to both the interviewer and interviewee. That is; it informs on the potentials of the candidate for the interviewer and demands of the job for the interviewee. http://www.aarpworksearch.org/inside/pages/employersinterviews.aspx B23. Compromising is the most effective process of managing conflicts. It is effective since both of the parties involved in the conflict either loose or gain something from the conflict. As a result, they avoid conflicts. B24. I would rely primarily on theory z, which encompasses many management methods without the need for micro-managing employees. Theory z is focused on engaging employees in job rotation, skills broadening and continuous provision of training to the employees. Thus, the employees will not refuse or hate working since they learn new thinks every day that makes them more valuable and is not bored with engaging in a monotonous job responsibility. However, for this theory to be effective, the management must have trust in the employees. http://petervenn.tripod.com/brochure/complete/xyz.htm B25. The part of adjusting would be t he hardest. That is; preparing is like reading theory, which is easy. The easiest part would be learning. Learning a new language will be easy as I learn while speaking and practically, ethics and values will be acquired easily. Though learning will be easy, and I may apply the learned tactics in the assignment, adjusting to adopt them will be harder. Read More
