Interview Report on Different Perspectives al affiliation Interview Report on Different Perspectives I interviewed Rosemary Esther, alady who lives some few doors away from our apartment. Esther is a lady whom I admire so much because of her decency in dressing and conversations. Besides that, Esther is a senior student in our university and has a part-time job. She is one woman any man would like to have her company and as a friend. I knew Esther would open up and answer every question I asked without hiding anything. Being an educated person, Esther would also understand that my interview with her was formal and nothing more than that. A little explanation of what I intended to talk about was enough for her to schedule the two meetings. Since her days are ever busy, she scheduled the meetings on Friday and Saturday evenings. With her understanding that my interview was educational, she had no problems in welcoming me into her house. She has no children and is yet to be married, and this further facilitated the success of our meetings. Her warm welcome assured me that all would be well, and I should not fear asking her any questions. She also had no problem when I proposed to record the entire conversation because all that we were to discuss was formal. She is the best interviewee I have ever been involved with in my entire studies. There are some major differences between Esther and I; she is a female, and I am male. Our sexual differences, however, did not hinder our interview from being successful. Esther is a white, born and raised in Washington D.C. Her parents and grandparents are American Natives. As for me, I am an African-American, and my ancestral roots can be traced to Senegal, West Africa. My great grandfathers and my parents were all born in Senegal. My father was, however, lucky during his schooling when he received a scholarship to study abroad. It was on his studies that he hooked up with mum, a fellow student by then, and I was lucky to be their second born. My mother is a white, born and raised in America by native parents. Esther is one person who respects others and has no signs of being a racist. Another difference between Esther and me is age. She is 26 while am only 23 years old. Despite her our age difference, Esther does not credit anything to her age. She could not even attempt to hide it and went ahead to provide me with her date of birth. She is one of those people who consider age as a number. In terms of gender, we are also aligned differently. She is an ideal lady with all typical characteristics of a woman and does not shy away from feminine roles. On the other hand, I am a typical man who respects all that is associated with manhood. Esther and I differ on how we conduct our everyday lives. Whereas my day involves attending classes, her days are complicated. She wakes up early, mostly at four, reads through what she learned the previous day at school and prepares herself for the day. Still in the morning hours, she has to login to her computer and check whether her boss has assigned her any duties. She has to prepare her breakfast, iron her clothes, and clean her house before leaving. At school, she makes sure she attends all her classes. When she has no classes, she is busy doing her private studies and assignments in the library. By four o’clock, she leaves the school and passes by her workplace to check with her boss. She stays at the workplace until eight o’clock when she leaves for home where she prepares her supper and goes to bed by ten o’clock. For me, I wake up at six, take my breakfast that has been prepared by the house help and dress ready to leave for school. The school bus picks me at half past seven and gets to school at eight o’clock. When I have no classes, I usually hang around with friends at the entertainment hall and leaves for home at four. At home, I have no duties and all I do is study for two hours before retiring to bed at eleven o’clock. A significant difference in our life experiences is that Esther’s parents passed on before she joined high school. She was left alone to struggle with life with little help from her relatives. She had to connect with the local organizations and charity clubs in order to pay her school and college fees. Finding scholarships to sponsor her education has been a challenge in her life (Esther, 2014). Contrary to that, I have never had problems with paying my school fees because my parents are there for me. The challenge to find fees for my studies has been my parent’s duty unlike Esther, who has to attend to her part-time job and engage with local organizations to afford her fees. The most unexpected information I got from Esther was learning that she is an orphan. Her parents had died a long time before she begun her high school studies. Besides that, she has no brother or sister. The only close relatives she has are cousins and nephews. The cousins have not been of much help to her because they are not financially stable. They have, however, been instrumental in connecting her with the charity organizations (Esther, 2014). I was totally comfortable talking to Esther because as stated earlier, she is a lady with an open heart ready to share her life experiences. I have known Esther as a neighbor for about two years, and we always exchange greetings whenever we meet. Although it was my first time to enter her house, I felt as if I were at home. I also had no problems with maintaining eye contact throughout the interview despite of her killer smile. Talking with her was fun. There were no much similarities between me and her. One of the few similarities is that both of us are Christians and firm Catholic believers. In the same way as her, I have been attending Catholic Church since I came to know of myself. It was also a pleasure finding that both of us believe in working hard in order to realize our goals and dreams. Our hobbies are also a match. Esther enjoys swimming and watching movies whenever she is free. She has a large screen and a collection of movies that she describes as her best friend (Esther, 2014). I also enjoy movies, and I watch them on weekends. Another similarity that I discovered is that we are both single and intend to remain that way until we finish our studies. The most surprising similarity between us is that we are both left handed. I had for long thought I was the only one in the apartment who could use the left hand, but before I left her place, I saw her take some notes using her left hand. The interview was important to me as it affirmed the necessity of having good relationships with people from various backgrounds. It emphasized that gender, sex, age or race should not prevent people from interacting and working together for the benefit of all (Mizrahi & Davis, 2008). As for Esther, she is white and had no problems in hosting me in her house. Besides that, she gave me a chance to interview her about personal life. Our differences should not be a hindrance to the development of the society, but the strength to achieve and conquer problems facing us (Gibbs, 2013). References Esther, R. (2014).
