Walmart Company National Strategic Conference December 8th to December 13th Hyatt regency Miami downtown Miami County Scenario Walmart company wishes to expand globally through opening of more shopping outlets where it will be able to sell its products to the would be esteemed customers a it maintains its current customer base in the over 27 countries it operates in recently. The company will lay down strategies to compete effectively and maintain its market value as it tries to help the community achieve economic stability and good living standards. Walmart overview/client history Walmart Company helps individuals all over the world to live better and save money anywhere and anytime. This is achieved through the numerous retail stores, through their phones and online. The company approximately had sales of over 473 billion dollars in the 2014 fiscal year. Walmart Company is an American company that is a multinational retail corporation operating worldwide. We have a number of warehouses and discount department stores worldwide. Our headquarters are in Bentonville in Arkansas. Walmart Company came into operations in 1962 under the foundation of Sam Walton and incorporated in 1969. We have more than 11000 stores in around 27 countries in the world. We also have over 55 different banners in total. In this year Fortune magazine listed Walmart as the world’s largest company in terms of revenues. It is thus one of the biggest private employers in the world having more than 2.2 million employees worldwide. We are among the leading companies in terms of market value in the world. The company is owned by the family of Walton who have a stake of over 50 percent and the other 50 percent held by the Walton Enterprises (Norman). Thus the company is a full family company. Goals for the meeting Walmart perspective The main reason for holding this meeting by the Walmart Company is to discuss the way forward for the company to maintain its market share in the world and meet its goals and objectives. The first main goal to be discussed in the meeting will involve how the company will maintain its market value in U.S. and the world. This will involve discussion on the strategies to be put into place, best research and development strategies, and analysis on the strengths, weaknesses, available new opportunities and the threats the company faces. The best practices will be drawn from this SWOT analysis and the participants will lay down the strategies to adopt and the time frame to implement them. Furthermore the meeting will discuss on the expansion plans for the company. In this the participants will discuss if the company should open up in other countries in the world and whether it should expand to other products that it does not operate in. The participants will lay down the available expansion plans for the company in the future years and how it will effectively compete with other companies that may emerge to occupy those new ventures posing a threat to the company. The company chose the Hyatt regency Miami downtown in Miami County because the hotel is considered to be among the most developed hotels in the U.S. It was listed as the 95th best in U.S. to work for by the fortune magazine in this year. It has over 490 chain of hotels all over the world. The hotel offers services in full-service lodging, select-service lodging, extended-stay lodging, all-inclusive resorts, timeshares and the operation of retirement homes for the retirees (Luth). The time frame for the meeting was chosen because it was considered that this is the period that the company gets more customers being the Christmas festive season. It was also chosen because most of the executives felt that it is the best time to feast the best hotels in U.S. and particularly Miami County because it is the time they offer the best services to their clients. Hyatt regency Miami downtown perspective The hotel was welcomed by Walmart Company among other regional companies and executives and leaders from various companies in the U.S. to deliberate on the way forward for Walmart Company on how it will expand globally and be able to compete effectively to outshine its competitors. The hotel wishes to provide the best environment possible to the participants to be able to discuss and come up with the best strategies to make Walmart company the company of choice in the world. Return on investment Walmart company perspective Return on investment is the adjusted operating income that involves operating income plus amortization and depreciation, interest income and rent expenses for one financial year divide by the average investment capital for the same year. Walmart’s return on investment for the financial year 2013 and 2012 was measured to be 17.5 percent and 18 percent respectively. The decline was a result of growth in working capital, investment in fixed assets and acquisitions. This meeting will make the returns on investment to rise higher in the coming financial year if the decisions of the meeting will be implemented to make Walmart the company of choice in the world. Hyatt regency Miami downtown perspective The budget for the meeting will amount to around 200 thousand U.S. dollars. This money will boost the profits of the hotel for the year and thus have a positive impact on the economy of the Miami County. Time frame for the agenda under discussion First day 8th Dec 2014 8.00am – 1.00pm during this day members will be required to arrive at 8.00am. They will be showed their respective rooms and taken around the hotel to familiarize themselves with the new environment. This will take a maximum of 3 hours. Later at they will have their lunch and be ready to attend the first session 2.00pm – 8.00pm members will convene at the conference hall where registration will be undertaken and the agenda for the meeting read to the members present. There will be a brief break of 15 minutes and then the members will discuss the first agenda on how Walmart can maintain market share globally. Members will break for supper and to their rooms later to meet the following day. Second day 9th Dec 2014 8.00am to 10.00am members will discuss the second agenda which will be on expansion strategies for Walmart Company worldwide. The members will be grouped in groups of ten members to brainstorm on the best expansion strategies and the budget for each plan and the weaknesses that might emanate from such plan. There will be a tea break at 10.00am to 11.00am 11.00am – 1.00pm members will assemble together in the conference hall where each group will present its findings. There will be a vote for the best three strategies that the company should adopt. Members later will break for lunch break and entertainment till the following day. Third day 10th Dec 2014 8.00am – 1.00pm members will discuss the third agenda on the social responsibilities the company should adopt. This will involve discussion on the performance of previous social activities and brainstorming on the adoption of new ones. There will be a tea break between 10.00am and 11.00am. Members will vote for the best social activities to adopt and lay down a budget for them. Later there will be a lunch break and entertainment at night for the members at their own pleasure. Fourth day 11th Dec 2014 Members will convene at the conference hall for final word from the chief executive and the guest of honor.
