ETHICAL CONCEPTS IN BUSINESS CULTURES Name Course Professor Date Ethical Concepts in Business Cultures Introduction In the world today, business ethics play a significant role to a succeeding business enterprise. Every business is working hard to ensure that it treats its customers well beyond their expectations. They expect that the company understands them well and their needs would be addressed. So that they can retain them, customers are the prime reason for the business set up. And the culture surrounding the business need to be respected honored and dignified. The business ethics are the values that every employee is expected to exercise (Walumbwa and Schaubroeck 2009). Cultures determine the kind of products that are going to be offered in the market by the firm. Employees show to the world how the business treats its customers and this would enhance its acceptance internationally. It makes the concepts of ethics to be important in the culture of business operations. Virtue and Vice Virtues in the human sociology are learned from the birth. The first virtues are installed as it develops and grows; therefore, the mind is brought up knowing that most of the things are right or wrong. Other values are acquired as the child grows. When one makes a mistake, the consciousness definitely would inform. As time goes one develops the resistance that leads to the overlap between the morals and the standards of the organization (Verbos et al. 2007). Culture in every community is very vital it determines a lot the products to be offered under which conditions and the packagings of the products are managed. All the departments are encouraged to continuously coordinate and continue to communicate with the proper management of the resources. Once the organization understands the culture of the customers, then it is acceptable, and the community responds positively. The erosion of the morals of the society starts with the degradation of the personal ethics. Therefore if individuals are held responsible for their mistakes the next time they would be able to conduct in a responsible manner (Chan et al. 2008). In the business environment, the bad news spread faster in a grapevine manner. However, the public relations manager would correct, but the impact on the mind would not be quickly deleted. The business culture and the community culture must agree so that there are mutual benefits that would conform to both of them. Honesty being one of the values in the business ethics plays a vital role in the development of the market of the firm. The handling of the customer's complaints and the response was given by the client. When the business adopts the values that show the company is responsible the community would develop the trust that would be of importance to the organization. The community in which the business is being conducted should work in close collaboration with the community members for the maintenance of the overall environment also known as corporate social responsibility (Verbos et al. 2007). When the company behaves well in the production of goods and services there are high, chances that the corporation would receive awards for maintaining a strong code of conduct in the industry. Ethical relativism The theory is concerned with what is right or wrong based on the moral order that coincides with the cultural society of an individual’s Therefore, any form of action that would be regarded as ethically right in one society cannot be the same in other. Every business is trying to keep up with the competitive world and therefore apart from the academic qualification there arises a need for the code of conduct to be part of the requirements. Organized employees are very simple to work with in the workplace (Verbos et al. 2007). Some of the values that enhance the ethical behavior include honesty, integrity, and responsibility among employees in an organization. These concepts applying the daily running of the organization and therefore every organization that is purposed to succeed would become strict to the adherence of these concepts by the employees of the organization. Not only in the business set up that the ethics are crucial but also in all other field of the social life the code of conduct very important. According to Chan et al. (2008), whenever changes are made in the environment of a normal human being the change is gradual in his bid to adapt to the new norms. In this context, the business is the one to make own changes so as to fit into the industry in which it is about to get engaged in. Ethics pose a very significance benefits to the organization in such a way that there is the need for the business to keep alert to the incoming and the creeping in of the new norms to the business. Some of the importance of the ethical concepts includes informed decisions within the organization. Increased customers and consequently increasing the sales leading to increased revenue (Chan et al. 2008).When employees know that the businesses are committed to achieving the goals through integrity investors are attracted, and their company is in a position to stand entirely to the morals and the responsibility. The company that works with own ethical guidelines is at a lesser risk of being fined due to the bad behavior. Customers’ satisfaction and retention is the primary core of the daily research on the best production processes and other researchers that are continuously done for the mutual benefits. Therefore, culture is the primary focus as far as the operations within the business are concerned. Cultures are diverse in the world, and each and every business has its culture that is unique and specialized (Chan et al. 2008). Information sharing on the expectations of the community is very helpful, and an added advantage to the business. Human beings also play a great role in the implementation of the codes of conducts as expected by the community it serves. Compassion and Consequence There have been criticisms from some scholars that theories that are found on the abstract principle have neglected the elements of human compassion. The business that is based on compassion would be able to succeed. However, the element of compassion should not affect the decision making. Ethical problem has a diverse potential consequence on the decisions that are made in the organization (Walumbwa and Schaubroeck 2009). The unethical business practices such degradation of the environment would bring immediate benefits to the stakeholders but have diverse consequences in the long run. Clean image is very easy to clean however when dirty water has been splashed on it becomes very difficult to clean to the original state. Therefore firms should protect their image through strong codes of conduct to enhance smooth running of the organization. Once proper ethics are enhances within employees the organization would have an ample time to competitively produce good quality products, market without much effort and also reduce wastage of resources. Duty to Principles In the real business market, there are always regulations that are subjected to the economy for proper functioning. The leaders of the businesses have ethical responsibilities that go beyond their personal interest. However, there is no specific thing and individuals that they are suppose to be obligated towards. It is the culture of the business that the business leaders should act in the sole interest of stockholders or the investors especially on the financial matters (Chan et al. 2008). The culture of the business also states that it would be ethical duties of the business to operate in the best interest of the local community, environment and the employees. It would facilitate the mutual understanding between them and the business which is more important in the corporate world. Employees tend to copy the behavior of the supervisors and the managers in the response to the situations. Therefore, the seniors shape the behavior of the juniors in the organization to adopt. According to Verbos et al. (2007) , the leadership adopts the norm that is applicable and acceptable to the community in which the business operates. Managers being the top most leaders are expected to demonstrate to the juniors on how to adopt the best ethical values in line with the prevailing situations. According to Walumbwa and Schaubroeck (2009), the introduction of ethics came from the interrelation between the business and the religion. There was a need to correlate them. It enabled the business persons to be embraced in the religion. Soon the researchers started making tremendous efforts in the attempt to conform to the religion. These concepts apply to each and every member of the business society. Every employee is held responsible for his or her mistakes of the organization. Therefore, ethics creates a reliable environment for the employee to observe self-discipline about the delivery of the products to their customers. In a morally upright business environment, there are well clear lines of duties and less turn-over this enhances job specialization and division. Conclusion The culture determines a lot the operations of the business in a variety of ways. It stresses the need for the company to embrace the culture of the people in which it is set up. It would enable the company to equip its employees with the relevant knowledge on how the operations of the business would be run and the code of the behavior to be adopted every time a customer is to be served and the overall business activities. It is advisable that the firm should consider the opinions of the community in which the company is set. Moral and ethics are paramount, therefore should lay emphasis on for best performance.
