8.1.2 I think Rachel Maddow of MSNBC was neutral in reporting the Keystone XL Pipeline bill. She does not offer her own opinion on the benefits or demerits of the bill but attempts to report on the voting patterns of the Senate, previous challenges of bill passage and why Obama has been determined to veto the bill passage. She has tried to present the votes through bar charts which may help viewers to see the bill the way it was judged by the Senators.

8.1.3 Informative presentation normally used in industry and business are analytical and communicate information in a concise and clear manner. On the other hand, persuasive presentation attempts to change opinion, motive or perspective. I think that informative presentation is good for formal town-hall meetings which try to present facts such as profitability or employee turnover in a company while persuasive presentation will be relevant in product marketing through advertising. I have learned that informative presentation helps viewers and listeners to understand and know the facts while persuasive presentation attempts to change the perceptions of the audience towards a given product.

8.2.1 Two programs in CNN (State of the Union with Candy Crowley and CNN Heroes) are informative and exploratory as they provide visual content on politics and history. On the other hand, I think that the State of the Union is more persuasive and attempts to gather different opinions of callers while CNN heroes are informative and involve listeners actively. The later uses spatial and musical content to show the history of American and World heroes. I think the former uses spatial learning styles through mental imagery and music most of the time to capture the attention of viewers.

8.3.1 Richard Quest is a CNN news correspondent, particularly on aviation and airlines. I noticed that he currently runs the CNN Business Traveler Show. During the launch of Airbus A380, I learned through Richard Quest that it is possible to inform viewers by way of graphs and flow charts on how to move a company from point A to B. I learned to use numbers sequential and linguistic approaches to informative news.

8.3.2 I watched the news on same-sex marriages and learned that words like dignity and tolerance come out strongly values that the caucus wants to communicate to the listeners or viewers. News on terrorism I watched recently had common words like Islam and the Middle East which may have an aspect of bias and negative judgment regarding an informative speech or discussion. While watching the news on the best technology and research-oriented universities, I could hear words like Harvard and MIT which made me think that when one thinks about these universities, they have an opinion of better facilities and programs.
