Strategies in globalized hospitality Name Course Lecture Date Part A: Ethics and culture With the ever changing competitive investments, the hospitality sectors need to come with measures for them to always stay ahead of their competitors. The hospitality organization has been responding to this by coming up with collaborative relations as well as partnerships with their customers. With the aim of attracting and retaining customers the industry has turned to ethics and culture as a way of luring more customers into their businesses (Hall 2000). A great number of hotels are now incorporating some cultural aspects in their business such as having cultural designs and art works or at times offering cultural dishes in the aim of gaining a competitive advantage over their competitors. There exist a number of hotels in the globe that incorporates culture and ethics in their brand. These hotels tend to be performing better as compared to hotels with no cultural heritage. A good example of such a hotel is the heritage hotels and resorts. Culture has been incorporated in the business that is undergoing a great number of renovations over the years and millions of dollars has also been spent on the interior design and architectural design this has enabled them to uphold the culture as well as the true roots of the southwest. The heritage hotel and resort is termed as being a leader in relation to culture. Over time they have been able to come up with a number of hotels that draws upon the unique blend of the southwest’s Mexican, Native American, Spanish and American western historical influences and cultural influences. Through the interior decorations, landscaping, art, cuisine, architecture and music and entertainment the guests are usually offered with very unique experiences (Heritage Hotels and Resorts 2014). The hotels have been able to integrate the ancient traditions as well as the unique culture of the area while at the same time maximizing each hotels attractions and locations. They showcase the best qualities and features of southwest and at the same time offer an entertaining venue for the customers. The hotels and resorts also maintain a consistent level in regard to service given to their guests and is a brand of choice for people seeking accommodation in southwest. In regard to ethics the hotel also tends to have high ethical values in regard to serving their customers. Ethics deal with issues related to doing what is right and wrong. The staff is friendly and more willing to assist the customers in all areas they may experience difficulties (Heritage Hotels and Resorts 2014). All the guests visiting the heritage hotel and resorts are usually offered with an authentic experience. The housekeeping staffs are also friendly and this aids a lot in making the customers experience more enjoyable. Also the guest houses are executive, clean and strategically played to ensure that the customer has a better experience on his vacation. Part B: Intercultural differences While a number of societies tend to believe strongly in the enjoyment of life and leisure as being important, other societies tend to be stricter and they usually endeavor to control the human drives in the aim of maintaining social norms. Despite the earlier dimensions that Hofstede had developed earlier, he later added another sixth dimension and it tends to deal with aspects that had not been covered by the earlier dimensions (Hofstede, Hofstede & Minkov 2010). Indulgence usually stands for a society that lets moderately free satisfaction of both the basic as well as the natural human drives that are more related to the enjoyment of life and having fun. Good examples of countries that have high indulgence are countries such as Mexico, Venezuela and Puerto Rico. High restraint on the other hand means stands for societies that suppress gratification of the needs and they adjust it by means of severe social norms (Hofstede 2001). This list usually consists of countries in eastern European and those in the Middle East such as Pakistan, Ukraine and Egypt. All people considering venturing into business usually do so with the aim of gaining profits from the ventures. In relation to this aspect when establishing a hotel in both the high indulgence and high restraint countries one need to put into consideration a number of factors to ensure the success of the business activity. For example, for the high indulgence countries one need to consider the types of food served in the hotel (Hofstede, Hofstede & Minkov 2010). Based on these it would seem more appropriate to offer fast food and instant drinks this would offer more convenience to the people living in this kind of a society. People living in this kind of society tend to be busy and are more likely to prefer fast foods since they save a lot of time. In relation to this fast food and ready drinks they may not be a necessity in the high restraint societies since they tend to be more conscious when it comes to issues relating to their health. Another aspect to consider is luxurious guest rooms. Based on the fact that people in high indulgence societies are willing to spend a lot of money on events that relates to enjoyment and leisure it would be essential to build highly luxurious rooms in these countries (Hofstede 2001). This group of people will be willing to spend a lot provided they are offered with the best service. People from the high restraint countries are very cautious in their spending and thus they will not spend a lot of enjoyment and leisure and based on these they seem to be well suited from simple guest houses. Thus, it would seem more suitable for one to build guest house that are simple and which will be charged at a lesser value for them to benefit from their venture. Failure to do this they are likely to incur losses based on number opting to use their guest houses. Part C: Cultural influences in different economies The cultural attributes of a specific country, usually play an important role and also acts as a very good marketing tactic that can be applied when attracting tourists to a country. I would consider certain cultural components when organizing a festival to showcase cultural diversity. A major component that could be used is food. Based on these the festival would serve various dishes from various corners of the world, for example, African dishes, Brazilian dishes and Chinese dishes. By this the festival would be culturally diverse since people would have a wide variety of dishes to choose from. Another component to be used is music (Minkov 2013). I would make sure that the festival is a representative of a global culture in that almost all the communities would be presented. Music played during the festival would be all inclusive. Aspects of culture are commonly used by managers and employees in the hospitality industry to attract both the local and international tourists. A major aspect of culture that I could use is the traditional food. Based on this aspect I would offer different menus to demonstrate the different cultures in our country (Minkov 2011). This will lure tourists into visiting the country as well as the hotel so as to have a taste of our traditional food. Another aspect that I would make good use of so as to attract tourists is the clothing. Different countries have different kinds of clothing. Clothes usually portray some cultural values of the community and thus this will be used so as to attract tourists. Clothes also come hand in hand with ornaments such as earrings and necklaces and some of them are usually made with country colors thus showing the people's loyalty to their country. Another cultural aspect that I will make good use of in attracting the tourists is artwork and music. Some of the music is used in displaying the culture of the society while some songs are usually sang to show people patriotisms to their country. There are also the traditional dancers that perform traditional dances which were usually sung in certain styles and also they came along with certain kinds of clothing based on the occasion (Minkov 2013). Art work can also be used since it usually demonstrates the tradition of a country. People usually model or craft items which can be stored and used in the various hospitality centers to show a country's culture and heritage. For example the menus can hold on wooden materials while flower can be kept in modeled or crafted flower vases. Also pictures which have been drawn by artists can also be hanged in the hotels to represent the culture of the community. The marketing strategy that will be used in this case is advertisements. Adverts will be placed in the weekly newspapers and also on local radios and television stations and also on the internet (Minkov 2011). The internet will be used so as to tap the young generation who are adequate users of the internet. Also, grassroots methods will also be utilized and visiting customers will be given coupons to give to their friends.
