A team leader is required in the leadership of health care professionals. The leader is supposed to be efficient and competent in a sufficient level to enable the group to meet the intended goals and objectives. Leadership in health care profession requires someone with supervisory and leadership skills, familiarity, as well as understanding (Irwin, 168). It is necessary for a team leader to also have good attitude, and proficient values related one’s official or team responsibilities. Leadership in health care
Leadership refers to the capability to define vision and directing groups and individuals to the particular vision during the conduct of teamwork, efficiency, and obligation (Dotson and Amani 35). Professional nurses need a leader to help them conduct their duties well, offer quality healthcare to clients, and in proceeding with their nursing performance. Leadership assists in making of a friendly working environment and productivity of the professionals if well conducted (Irwin 168). Leaders in healthcare orgnisations practice diverse headship traits and characteristics. They comprise of positive outlook, visionary, screening of amendments as opportunities, having courage, powerful to the group, staying betrothed, and being vigorous or constructive. A leader who understands of healthcare setting as a business, admiring in mentoring conduct, and endlessly taking education and civilizing in one’s leadership practice is required. It is the role of a team leader to administer and supervise the subordinate health professionals (Dotson and Amani, 35). For one to be selected as a team director, he/she needs to understand one’s roles as identified in the following figure.

Furthermore, a leader need to have acquired comprehension related with concerns and needs of the professionals in a team, and the requirements of the particular health care setting. In the practice of teamwork, it is vital for the manager to understand the methods to be applied to ensure that every member of the group is involved and they acquire the best from their practices. Prioritization and planning is very necessary for a leader to ensure that all the activities and practices are done as per the set goals. The leader should be communicating resourcefully, and administration time through work plan. One needs to be preparation of all the activities, putting in order, and putting off issues from happening if they would negatively affect the working of the subordinate members (Irwin, 168). Conflict management skills are essential in leadership because when working in a team, professionals might tend to be in conflict among themselves or with the clients. A leader has to apply diverse ideas, manners, and qualities enabling the resolution of such issues. A leader should also know the best means of self-motivating through improvement of individual initiative, self-confidence, and inspiration skills. Moreover, the means of motivating other group members needs to include; stimulating initiatives, self-belief, and exciting drive.
There are specific skills that a team leader needs to portray when leading a team of health care professionals (Irwin, 168). They comprise of; interpersonal skills, whereby one is needed to know how to collaborate with others through deliberating their interests and deeds, as well as thoughts. For example, associating the health care professionals’ actions in diverse situations. Poor leadership also affects the health care institutes negatively since they fail to perform as expected and does not achieve the set goals as per the clients (Dotson and Amani, 42). Due to need for job contentment from the team of health care professionals, the organization experiences lack of faith from the patients, their families, and the entire society. There is the issue of lack of change-aimed leadership, which leads to hopelessness of the changes established in the settings. Poor leadership results to collapse of the organization since the staff members are irritated to act upon well in their roles, thus not enhancing realization of the placed goals and objectives.
