I am a good team player and a leader as I realized during my internship in Musabah Al Hameli Granite Factory. I was the team leader in a group charged with reviewing the company’s human resources policies. I am flexible person whom I enjoy working indoors and outdoors depending on the weather condition. It excites me working outdoors during sunny and warm weather condition to enjoy the sun rays and appreciate beauty of nature. When it comes to supervision, I like a work environment where there is minimum control and supervision. I like to be given the task and its accomplishing instructions then left to unleash my innovation. Assuming a supervisory role or an executive position would excite me and provide me with an opportunity to use my leadership and people’s skills to lead a group of employees to achieving the greatest results in the company. Travelling is one of my hobbies and working an environment that demand travelling does not bother me much. I am also that kind of person who do not like changing jobs now and then. I wish to work in an environment that guarantees job security for me. I job that offers an opportunity to unleash my full potential and innovation and give me room for enhancement and transfers. Getting trapped in one position in the same place does not excite me at all. A job that allows me to advance my education and my skills in order to qualify for higher grade provide me with a motivation to always do best at my workplace at the same time enhance my knowledge to better deliver. Writing has never been easy for me but with continued training and practice I will attain excellent levels. I feel at home with using a computer and doing library research. I like to learn something new each day and research is no option for me. I also like meeting need people and working with people from diverse background. On shortcoming I have is meeting deadlines. I am poor at meeting deadlines and sometimes I work under pressure to beat the defined timelines. I deliver best when I have clear instruction and clear timelines. To enter employment as a human resources officer in a reputable company after my bachelor’s graduation. 3. To progressively rise in career rank after every two years to the highest ranks 4. To setup my own human resource consultancy firm 3.0 Development Activities and Experiences Goal 1(year 1-2) In order to To continuously develop myself and skills in order to achieve high standards throughout my career path, education is the key. Based on the career test I am convinced I am heading in the right direction having started with a diploma in business administration human resources option from Higher Colleges of Technology Abu Dhabi my mind opened up. Having learnt lots of principles in business administration and in particular human resources, I discovered where my passion is. To progressively achieve my career goals self-education is a must (Reardon et al., 2000). Within the next two years I plan to work extra hard to improve my bachelor’s grades and enroll in some short courses like public speaking, time management, communication skills and any other relevant short course available within the university or online. According to Brown (2012), continuous development is one in which a person grow, acquire skills, and contributing to the general goal of an organization. With the conducive environment at School and home prove a potential to fostering my persistent improvement. Through constant communication, consultation, group discussion information sharing, personal research I am confident of achieving a continuous development and advancement. This goal calls for self-discipline and sacrifice in order to maintain focus, commitment and hard work (Super, 1980). Action plan Schedule my time properly and stick to the time schedule Participate actively in class work Consult widely Finish one short-course at least every two months within the university or without Join clubs, groups within the institution Participate actively in extra curriculum activities particularly team building activities Goal 2 (year 3-4) I want to enter employment as a human resources officer in a reputable company after my bachelor’s graduation. To achieve this I must work early to attain the required qualifications for the position of a human resources officer. Responsibilities of a human resource officer According to Demonshreder et al. (2013), human resource offers sometimes known as human resource managers act as links between employees and top company’s leadership. They are responsible for ensuring the employees are happy and delivers according to the set organizational goals. They are also involved in organizing employee welfare services, take part in enterprise bargaining talks where employees, management and unions discuss the development of specific work arrangements and conditions[Wil03]. They are further responsible in employment, dismissal, employee compensation and remunerations issues, employee training, complaints and conflict resolution, and implementing and clarifying in-house policies among other responsibilities related to human resource. Requirement for human resource offer’s position Research on the requirement for an HR officer diver from organization to organization but the key is basic degree in human resource. Specialization requirement depend on the size of the organization. To gain more advantage over others professional certification may be required. The position also require personal attributes such as being tactful, outstanding communicator both written and spoken the ability to build good working relationships with colleagues at all levels, fairness and objectivity, discretion with confidential information, good organizational ability, high levels of accuracy and attention to detail, calmness under pressure, excellent administration and computer skills and the ability to balance competing interests and find compromises [Dem13]. Action plan Since most employers look for such skills as Strong problem solving and analytical capabilities, Excellent oral and written communication and the ability to communicate with and influence all levels of management and employees, Strong process and project planning skills, Working knowledge of all areas of HRM, Broad exposure to business issues and functions, Team and leadership skills, High level of intensity/energy, High ethical standards, Flexibility and self-assurance I would work to develop this skills within the two years. To develop these skills I would actively in leadership positions within the clubs societies within the university. I will seek to establish linkage with the human resources officers in the industry to gain more career advice starting with the HR officer within this university. I will work as a volunteer in one of the popular companies in the department of human resources to gain knowledge on the business operation and experience the various human resources challenges in the market and in particular areas as finance, marketing, operations, and general management as this would enable me to confidently link my actions as a manger to the general organization’s strategy. Furthermore the volunteering program will enable me get the necessary recommendation to accompany my CV and academic credentials (Walz,1982). People to help me achieve this goal First the interaction with people around me who include my fellow students, my lecturers, the staff in the university would play a key role in nurturing my peoples skills, leadership skill. I will approach the various lecturers to gain career advice and create linkages. The players in the human resources industry and consultants are among the people I will work with to achieve my goals. Goal 3 (year 4-10) After achieving goal number two after graduation, I acknowledge the fact that the achievement of goal three depends on how I perform after achieving goal two. Most employers according to Taylor (2011) assesses the following when considering an employee for a job promotion Work performance I will work hard to build and maintain an excellent performance and reputation within and without the organization in order to consistently meet and even exceed the company’s expectation and earn an above average performance reviews and recommendations. Skills I will regularly upgrade my skills through attending seminars, workshops, furthering my education and sitting for certification exams such as those offered by Human Resource Certification Institute and other reputable institutions. A communication skill is another key HR skill that I need to develop to be able to progress in my career development. The ability to make good presentation and persuade people to buy your idea confidently will always place me above the rest around me in the work place. I will invest my time and effort to ensuring I craft these skills to its excellent level[Wil03]. The ability to read people is another HR skill that I will strive to develop as it will enable me to judge people’s intention early by studying their body language and the manner in which they speak. Through the study of the universal expressions, postures and micro-expressions I will be in a position to read people. Such skills would make me stand out of the rest and would make the top management have trust and confidence of my judgments and decisions[Dem13]. Attitude  Maintaining a positive attitude towards my work at any capacity is a key component that might propel me to higher rankings. I will inculcate the culture of strict time keeping, volunteer to engage in a difficult task, assist others to grow, and maintain a good working relationship with other employees. Eagerness to learn An organization is always looking for a person who is eager to learn new things and help the organization to adapt and cope with the dynamic business environment. I will continue the habit of research and develop skills in change management to enable me cope well with the change in job description and also help others cope well with the organizational changes. Goal 4 (10th Year from now) By the end of my eighth year from now I would have finished my doctorate degree and riding high in the corporate world. I would have made many friends and linkages and my profile would have gone high in the human resources industry. This would be the right time to startup my own HR consultancy firm. I intent to specialize in employee selection, placement and training but with time I will bring other specialist in the various areas in human resource on board to expand the scope of my consulting firm. Challenges Monetary challenges Money act as a catalyst for fast tracking the achievements of the planned careers goal. Education require money, networking require money too among other expenses that I will met on my way. To overcome this challenge I will request for contribution from my parents, friends, and relatives. I will work closely with the corporate companies to be able get sponsorships. To reinforce that I will also pursue work study programs within the institution. Health challenges Health being can significantly influence the degree at which one achieves his/her career goals. To avoid health problem I will always eat health and engage in activities that fosters health well-being. Assessment and monitoring For continuous monitoring of my progress I will constantly be in consultation with my mentor professor *************. He will be in charge to ensure I go as per the planned career development plan. Progress of my achievement would be evaluated every half a year.
