The paper 'Unitarism Concept " is a good example of management coursework. Unitarism is a concept where organizations work towards a common interest by ensuring that the workforce and the management work for a common goal (Edwards, 1993). This concept has faced strong opposition from a pluralist society where different groups look to arrive at a compromise formula to ensure that the organization develops (Unitarism, 2011). The paper looks into the Unitarism approach prevalent in Australia and the manner the role of union and employees have been altered due to it. The paper also looks into the manner Australia has a mix of both pluralism and unitarism due to changes in government.

Unitarism is different form pluralism in different ways as unitarism looks towards accomplishing common goals where the efforts are directed towards a common goal whereas pluralism is a concept where different sections of the society raise their own points and come to a consensus after having certain compromises in their working formula (Unitarism, 2011). Unitarism looks to have less power for the government and union and a more managerial prerogative approach. This has increased the role of HRM department as the use of dualities like unitarism and pluralism is making it difficult for managers to ensure effective workplace management (Boselie, Brewster & Paauwe, 2009).

Australia, as a country has seen widespread usage of utilarism as the strength of trade members, are dwindling as seen in the Australian Telecommunication sector especially Telstra which has witnessed decreasing strength of union (Ross & Bamber, 2009). Despite it, Australia still has the presence of a pluralist system due to changes in the working of the government.

Using a different approach helps to provide different benefits and also has an effect on the organization in a different way. Using a different approach helps to provide more flexibility, and improves productivity for the organization (Barton, Ruth, Broek & Diane, 2011) thereby ensuring better management. Pluralism helps to ensure that the bargaining power increases and helps at the time to arrive at a better consensus thereby ensuring better growth.

The paper thereby presents the manner in which pluralism and unitarism have an effect on Australia and every country has a mix of both as having a single one is not possible. Australia has seen the use of unitarism under the Howard government but with the change in government, the country is seen to be adopting a pluralist approach. Despite this, it has been seen that both types of structure exist in a country irrespective of the one being favored by the government.
