Running Head: Management strategies Management strategies Name: Tutor: Course: Date: Having being run for over a year, this means that cappuccino cafe has already established ventures that will enable its restoration. In order to retain their status, new strategies have to be implemented. Traditionally, businesses communicated via letters, telephones, memorandums, face to face etc, which had the disadvantages of consuming time, and delayed response. As advancements are made on technology, better and current communication tools are introduced. Increasing productivity, sales and profits are the main goal for this investment, and this should not be compromised at whatever cost. Communication is divided as internal and external modes of communication. The management should enhance the internal communication first as this will automatically improve the external communication. Improving employee and management relationship will improve employee and client relationship (Krizan, Merrier & Logan, 2007). Internal communication is numerous ranging from face to face, suggestion boxes, staff meetings, staff quizzes, internal social media, internal memos, short message services, employee surveys, emails, online chats, discussion forums and oral communication. Some of these communication channels are attached to hyperlinks that allow employees to browse thus increasing their skill level, knowledge and building capabilities. Employee surveys enable the management to get feedback from employees about their satisfaction, motivation and the overall awareness of activities in the workplace. 1These forms of communication will build strong teams within the organization as employees in different departments are able to socialize in a work environment, form connections, exchange ideas and get to know one another. This brings a sense of togetherness, responsibility and solidarity as they encourage participation. They also reduce the overload of email. Krizan, Merrier & Logan, (2007) claim that discussion forums allow the staff members to air their problems or queries to the owners and making them aware of what is happening on the ground. This reduces cases of abrupt leaves and turnovers of employees as the management is constantly aware of their grievances. Discussion forums reduce crises in organizations because the management always has time to solve any problem that may cause a crisis. Communication between the staff and the owners should be improved. Emails are not convenient sometimes and above all, there should be a healthy relation ship between the owners and staff. This will help in identifying the weaknesses and the strengths of the cafe. Moreover, this is also necessary in ensuring the customers receives quality service and are willing to come back. 2There should be coordination and teamwork between the staff in order to ensure quality service to customers. Despite being Simon’s sister, penny should not received exceptional treatment whatsoever at the workplace. Simon should make penny understand that apart from being her sister, she is also his employee. This will stop the conflicting between Sharon and penny. Being the senior coffee-makers, a lot of coordination is needed from them in order to successfully run the cafe as required (Tosi, Mero & Rizzo, 2000). Apart from coffee making skills, the employees at cappuccino roma cafe have skills in other fields. For instance, penny has a degree in French and translation skills; this should benefit the cafe, by applying his skills in relating with local customers and those that do not understand French. On the other hand, flight attendants are trained on how to professionally conversing with the clients. Sharon should also apply her skills on satisfying customers’ needs and ensuring that they are satisfied with their service. The same should apply to Jayne, Sangita, and Antonio. However, Simon and Karen being the runners of the cafe should motivate their employees by rewarding and appreciating them for their excellent job. In Sangita’s case, he should be given an opportunity to prove his skills. If he is convincing as he claim to be, his skill should be used to benefit the cafe, and he should receive credit for his ideas. If it is okay with the staff, Karen and Simon should initiate performance contracts. This will benefit both employees and employers. This will ensure that the employees are proportionally rewarded for their hard work, without discriminating them with their service type in the cafe. Antonio and the other staff members should be included in decision making of the cafe, especially if it is about the menu. This will make them feel responsible, since they are part of the solutions and feel responsible of making them work. However, this should not limit the owners from correcting the staff whenever they make mistakes or respond differently to their appeals. The concept behind using team work in the cafe is a way to pool information and knowledge. It is also the best way to utilize given gifts and talents among the team players, to increase productivity and flexibility. It is a concept that ideally emphasizes on harmony, dissemination of information, and a balance in different personality types (Dibble, 1999). Management is a tough undertaking that encompasses a lot of processes and stages. For a well established investment, project management must undergo the full stages of a business normally termed as the business life cycle. The skills of a project manager are of the essence from the start. The approach to be employed in a particular project will greatly depends on the clearly understanding of the project process, reliable estimation and a well considered planning. The major challenge that a project faces is the achievement of the required objectives and goals in lieu of the existing constraints. 3For a project to attract the anticipated benefits it requires both the administrative resources and the unique skills (Costin, 2008). This will necessitate the involvement of different personalities to play the different existing roles. Hygiene, services delays, quality of coffee or foodstuff served should be among the factors considered in satisfying customers needs. Karen and Simon should be more involved in the matters at the cafe. This will also prevent turnovers, as it can affect the monthly income. Some customers have their favorite staff members who understands their type of service, whenever an employee resigns or is fired, the customer might also shift to other cafe. The culture within this cafe should be characterized as that of freedom and responsibility. Due to the high commitment to their tasks, the employees are able to focus on serving the customers better. This culture is therefore, sustained through the employment of the desired employee job description. Salary increment and job vacations job vacations are the best methods of uniting the workers as well as motivating them. The staff members should be comfortable enough to stop looking for job opportunities in other places. Working at a coffee shop is not a dream job, but satisfying the employees will make them enjoy the job, and as a result, high income is generated. Following the dreadful reputation published on a local magazine, cappuccino cafe should be advertised in order to cerate awareness to the customers of their new services. A number of steps have been taken in order to improve the services delivered. Many extra workers are employed during the peak seasons especially during the change of a weather season, and the festive seasons e.g. Christmas. This is to ensure that the large numbers of customers are catered for, and they go away satisfied (Kurtz, Mackenzie & Snow, 2009, pp. 295). The delivery services have more workers in that the department in order to cater for the large number of orders. A customer care department desk has been put in place in order to cater for the enquiries. This has helped as not any worker is asked a question like in some smaller stores A risk entails the possibility of something happening. Around our environment we are faced by numerous risks and not all of them can be insured against. Risks are always present in our everyday life. There is the risk of tripping over the stairs in your own house. Therefore, people need to realize that risks are everywhere, and risks are not biased. Moreover, the customers need to be assured of their security in order to boost their comfort ability so as to ensure they are enjoying the environment. Each and every business has its own flaws and so this particular one is not an exception. Due to the large number of customers, the workers try to handle as many customers as possible which sometimes lead to the neglect of others. There are situations where one has to take more time before they are catered for which becomes annoying. This can be remedied by employing more permanent workers so as to comfortably cater for all workers. The staff at cappuccino cafe deals with thousands of customers on a daily basis who are need of different services depending on the individual. The cafe is also involved in a lot of transactions with suppliers and all these if not carefully handled, can affect the management of the cafe. According to Tosi, Mero & Rizzo (2000), the main aims of a business are to make profits, grow and invest. 4This is mostly achieved through the customers, and so the customer is a very important person in a business. Good customer service has majorly contributed to the growth of this cafe. Employees are a major asset to any organization and their satisfaction should be looked into. In order to retain their employees and reduce the turn over rate, cappuccino cafe owners have to begin by satisfying the staff needs before extending the same to the customers. These benefits should be such as; long-term disability insurance, dental insurance, health insurance, vision coverage and life insurance. This way, staff members like Antonio would be sure of their future at the cafe. Conclusion Whatever way we look at it, every business structure have their own and an ideal way of handling their employees. In this case, putting value in their employees is what the cafe needs to do. Delegating jobs among them and making them feel that they are part and parcel of the management. The fact that the owners values your ideas and the effort one has put into work makes one work harder having the same goals and objectives as the owners. There is an emphasis on quality and not quantity of the work done. For instance, when any employee is given the chance to work as if he or she owns the company, every worker will put their best foot forward in all that he or she does. References Costin, A. (2008).
