NCAA Division Pacific 12 Men Basketball Players NCAA Division Pacific 12 Men Basketball Players Introduction NCAA is an NGO that regulates student athletics and administrators by ensuring that they follow rules during their sporting activities (Miller & Washington, 2012). Many people play and support men’s basketball because the game is a hope and many young men aspire to realize their dreams and careers through sporting at college level and beyond. Therefore, this paper examines the particular environmental issues within NCAA that need change plan to restore order in NCAA. To achieve the change plan, the paper will employ the use of some of Kotter’s eight steps model to; establish a sense of urgency, create a guiding coalition, and develop a vision. Moreover, the model will help in communicating the change vision, empowering others to act, and institutionalize the new approaches among others. Step 1: Establishing a sense of urgency The first step of the change plan is to create a sense of urgency among the members of the NCAA sporting program. This involves highlighting to the members that the current recruiting process is less efficient. This is achievable by first convening a meeting with NCAA president Mark Emmert and explaining to him the amount of money and time currently used on recruiting (Southall, Nagel, Amis & Southall, 2008). The explanation to the president should also contain a program directed towards eliminating significant amount of resources wasted. After the meeting with the president, other officials of NCAA also need to have the same information on the change plan of NCAA. Another change plan in NCAA is to establish a sense of urgency to Major League Baseball (MLB) officials. This will help them realize that the Designated Hitter (DH) creates imbalance between the American League and National League. The course of this action is to have a meeting with relevant officials of MLB and present to the officials the decision of removing DH from MLB. This action if implemented will bring sanity in MLB and subsequently in NCAA. Step 2: Forming a powerful Guiding coalition There is need to form a powerful group that will help enforce the league in recruiting players. Having a large group consisting of about one hundred and fifty members, it will help to maintain an updated database for both coaches and players. A section out of this group will be in charge of communicating with high school and college coaches (Washington, 2012). These members should provide the rest of members with accurate information on database. Other members of the group will be in charge of maintenance of the site, managerial duties and troubleshooting among other duties. Eventually, working together among group members will ensure that all parties involved in NCAA satisfied. A powerful guiding coalition is also important in ensuring that the right team of employees are the one managing the recruitment process. This helps in increasing publicity as well as increasing NCAA rules compliance. In addition, the group formed helps in influencing baseball community. Step 3: creating a vision This involve creating a prototype of the site and share it with athletics directors and the coaches, NCAA officials and players. The prototype will provide an explanation of the program parts and give a guideline on how it work to change the recruitment process (Southall, Nagel, Amis & Southall, 2008). The prototype if well designed, will provide a way of eliminating the current recruiting process that uses question tactics that is normally associated with cheating and breaking of law. The vision of creating a prototype is to have DH removed from the American League so that the baseball original playing rules can return. There is need to test the prototype in a minor league before implementing it in the MLB. Upon implementation of the prototype to restore the original baseball playing rules, DH will be removable from the American League. Step 4: communicating the vision There is need to communicate the plan to remove Designated Hitter in the American League to all MLB officials and other affected parties such as coaches and players. In achieving this, the change team will convey the same information to all members. Such members would include coaches, players and their representative teams to get feedback and opinion on social media as asserted by Miller and Washington (2014). This will let the fans to find out for themselves any problem that arise from players about the change. Therefore, by discussing problems and explaining the benefits of eliminating the DH, the platform will allow the lead change agents to gain more in supporting the restructuring of the recruiting process of players It is important to communicate to coaches and other members about the new recruiting program once the change has been effective. This is achievable by employing multiple outreach techniques (Winn, 2015). This involve contacting high school football programs via email, explaining to the coaches the new recruiting process, encouraging coaches to inform their players to register and making the head coach of NCAA aware of the new program. The multiple out program employed will encourage all the affected members of the NCAA to take part in sharing the prototype. This will accelerate the process of communication hence players will familiarize themselves with the process. Step 5: Empowering others to act on the vision After informing the NCAA members of the new recruiting process, it is prudent to avoid any potential barrier to the new site. This is achievable by responding appropriately to inform staff and every members of NCAA about the recruiting rule and regulation and subsequently ensure compliance of the regulations. The site should employ certain securities mechanisms to ensure following of the rules to the latter. As added by Winn (2015), this step ensures that a change in rule is permanent and instead necessary measures established to support the regulations in place. After changing the rule of the game, attention should be on how to succeed in getting all the parties on board with the plan. However, the slight challenge now is that fans and another group of people will need persuasion and convincing that the new rule of the game is better. Therefore, it is prudent for the coalition to create a marketing campaign so that it will help to bring baseball game back bearing in mind the removal of DH. Step 6: Planning for and creating short-Term wins and Step 7: consolidating gains The short duration of winning the key component of change of NCCA against NCAA officials throughout planning process is very important in planning (Jessop, 2013). The winning starts with how primarily players have perceived the program change and finally goes to the fans. Convening all these parties on board will be a short-term win for the change agent because it tells to what extent the change of the recruitment process is successful (Gill, 2014). Therefore, moving up to the next level on perfecting the program change is the minor then finally, coming up of a new season will move it to the next level that is the major. There is need to embrace the change plan throughout the organization to avoid making NCAA’s football recruiting process competitive and expensive. This will prevent situations when inefficient and imbalanced system accompanied with various methods of breaching NCAA laws as well as cheating (Edelman, 2013). However, implementing of the new recruiting system, coaches will greatly benefit from realm of spectrum such as big and small budget. The new system will prevent breaking of NCAA’s current regulation by coaches but instead provide the coaches with information about their players as well as a way of communicating with them. Players will also benefit from information provided to them regarding a particular program. Conclusion The analysis of this chapter provides a change plan on NCAA that helps in bringing law and order in NCAA activities (Fizel & Brown, 2014). Its implementation replaces the expensive traditional recruiting methods used by universities and colleges who may have the athletic budget to afford the adoption.
