Leadership is a common to learn in understanding organization and in helping an individual build the necessary skills in leading or handling people or the entire organization. Concerning this, the work at hand provides essential concept about leadership and some other important related ideas. Leadership can be commonly defined or heard as something about influence. It leads the organization or someone to a certain direction, knowing that it could be all about influence. It could also be about motivation and so it gives direction to an organization.

This makes leadership as something related to ensuring direction for the entire organization or team, while the management is about addressing complexity, for it encompasses other organizational areas that leadership might not be necessary, except for the setting of future direction (Kotter, 1998). In other words, management and leadership should complement prior to the success of an organization or team, but the function of one must still be different from the other, or should be an intrinsic consideration for each.

Considering that leadership is all about influence, then there is an associated power with it. Power is something destructive once misused or helpful for an organization once properly implemented for a good purpose. In leadership, power is something that is innate to each of us, but it takes a lot of learning to master the art and science of how to use it the right way. Nonetheless, leadership together with providing it should not only for building power, but it should be employed to influence someone for good or at least for the benefit of the majority.

As a leader, it is good to always lead, which means showing the team members how exactly things are to be done for future direction setting. In fact, this is one of the most important tactics that one could possibly imagine about leadership. However, communication is also important in the process. To communicate with subordinates, peers and superiors is an integral process in ensuring success of the leadership. By being open with them; helping them express themselves should create a two-way communication process, which is an elemental contribution to the success of one’s leadership.

However, people may vary in their value, which makes it not that straightforward sometimes to communicate with them. Thus, as a leader, one must be able to evaluate one’s values and specifically his or her personal values in life. As for me, respect, excellence and discipline are vital values that I have in me that I also see as important components for effective leadership. These values relate to leadership by helping them develop their character and attitude towards change. Considering that leadership is an essential tool for future direction setting then it must be an elemental factor that could help the organization change for good, especially when it is properly employed in the context of implementing change.

Aside from personal values, one’s personality is also essential in leadership. I am a person that is not shy and enjoy socializing with others. This makes me more flexible to interact with people under varying personalities. Thus, as a future leader, it would be my style to keep leadership fun and exciting and allowing everyone to be directly or freely involved with it. On the other hand, aside from values and personality, my creativity as a leader contributes significant impact on the entire process of leadership.

I am creative in a way that I enjoy innovation. This one might be able to contribute significantly to formulating effective leadership, because there is an art in leading or directing people to a certain direction. Innovation is necessary, because everything is subject to change. Such creativity is necessary, because change itself is a creative process by nature. On the other side, leadership, as something that could provide future direction is not going to be successful without a vision. As one aiming to become a potential leader, I have a vision of leading first myself to somewhere that no one or still less have travelled so far.

This means that I have to become the leading innovator in my future career, be it in the business of dealing with others or my own personal business. Thus, in order to make this a reality, exercising the art of leadership, which must start within should be thoroughly exercised constantly, on a daily basis, making it a significant component of my lifestyle. Time is a precious commodity for a leader. As a leader, I should always constantly have serious time for myself, evaluating my leadership skills to the fullest.

As a leader, I myself should be the first one to embrace change, and should be the one who should love change so much, for good.
