 Case Study: What Price Safety? Writer’s Position According to the writer, the Anzen facility was conscious about the safety measures of its employees. Various posters/warnings displayed across the facility in both English and Nambunese the local language that emphasized the need for safety measures among employees and visitors. In addition, the writer stresses the fact that Anzen facility had prioritized the safety measures of its employees as they were required to wear protective wear at all times within the facility.

Stan who was in charge of human resource operations was categorical in ensuring that all employees are offered protection. The manufacturing manager, Victor was dedicated to Nambunese traditional cultural values in relation to duty and conformity (Moorthy, 1998). Moorthy (1998) argues that as a result of the values that were upheld by Victor he acted in unethical manner due to anger and assaulted one of the morning glory team members; Tommy. Due to his unethical behavior, he was troubled and offered an apology and some compensation to Tommy the next day.

This implied that he upheld ethical values, as he was able to realize that he had acted in unethical manner. However, this served as a lesson and Tommy was able to wear protective gears at all times within the facility. The case study involves issues in terms of ethical relativism as ethical values changes over time in order to accommodate different circumstances. Within Anzen facility there is the existence of various value system but there is no universal standards that can be used to determine whether an act is ethical or not (Moorthy, 1998).

My Opinion In my opinion, safety measures of employees within the working environment are important as it safeguards the welfare of employees. The managers of Anzen played their part in ensuring that all employees complied with the safety measures within the facility that required them to wear protective gears when in the facility. However, I strongly disagree with the fact that Victor who was in charge of operations engaged in the use of force in order to make a member of the morning glory to comply with the regulations.

This behavior was uncalled for and best described as being barbaric and unethical. Despite the fact that Victor was emphasizing the need for safety regulation the use of force or assault on employees was unethical. Presuppositions The assumptions of the case study involve the fact that traditional Nambunese cultural values should be upheld within the Anzen facility. It was therefore assumed that the fact that Victor had apologized and offered compensation to Tommy was enough to let the matter rest.

In this case, there was the existence of conflict between the Nambunese value system and the Motorolan value system. Therefore, the existence of these conflicts involved a dilemma on the part of the management team of Anzen facility. The dilemma therefore involved what action to be taken against Victor and Tommy was considered as being ethical and for the benefit of the two employees and the Anzen facility (Moorthy, 1998) Reference Moorthy, R.S,De George, T., Donaldson, T., William S.J.
