CONTEMPORARY MANAGEMENT Introduction The contemporary management skills for the business needs its own speciality those are exhibited in the way themanager’s takes upon the activities those helps the business. The Key skills that I would need as a learner in the contemporary business worlds is suitably developed and evaluated here. The professional skills required for a manager to enhance the employment ability with forward looking dynamic organizations are being discussed here. The Key Managerial Skills for effective Business Applications (Source: Hoffmann and Weill, 2011. pp. 15) Managing Changes Introduction The business has gone global today where manpower are from various cultural and demographical backgrounds. This contemporary businesses where the skill sets or intellectual capital is given an edge over nationality like factors. The final reflection of the business is in its ability to change and be competent in the existing market. Therefore the integration of Organizational changes with Training and development approach in its formulation to accommodate and integrate such a diverse population as a cohesive change in procedural is the challenge manager like me to create. Managing Changes The changing demographics of the business has made the way to integrate the different sorts of skills at one production floor for an example where the Skill sets for operations are given more priority (Lewis, 1994). Therefore the Intellectual capital that the organization develops gets a great deal of skill and training inputs to groom and develop the specialized skills those gives the business an edge over others. The manager’s skills are an important aspect that facilitates the multicultural competency program that integrates people together as one team of people with a common objective to understand the different aspects of needs for such changes and strategies across the globe. The skills required are primarily the exposure to different technological inputs and procedural or legal changes so that the policy framing of the organization is done in a strategic manner. Training and development activities, management games of team formation compatibility with organizational behaviour study are few pertaining skills that the managers need to possess as the Change Manager (Peyrat-Guillard and Gliaska-Newea, 2010). Application of Change management The facilitation of organization wide transformation of such multicultural workforce integration needs specific strategic application of objectives those guides such technical or procedural change. The skills those the managers may use in such a change management issue would encompass a well planned strategic approach. The one would be the communication skill that the manager is likely to have that is efficient to competently understand and interact with people from different language, demographic, socio-economic backgrounds. This skill helps the competent managers to interpret the different thoughts and beliefs, tastes, religious sentiments like processes for the individual that an organization have. The intellectual capital being one of the most important aspects of business that helps the business gain edge over its competitors. Therefore for employee retention and value generation of the employees of the organization needs to be well managed by me to be a competent manager with change management to make the business a preferred employer for all skilled people across the globe. Again few may resist it so there are ways to comply with aspirations of all and incorporating the objective in strategic time bound manner to manage effective change management. Leadership, Values and Team Management Skills Introduction The manager’s ability to motivate, cultivate and develop a group of individuals who works in tandem to achieve an objective is the skill of leadership that is expected of a modern day manager. This leadership skill and team development and management skills to achieve a unity in objective settings and value achievement formulates the affectivity of a successful manager. Skills of Leadership and team management Leadership in terms of business is the skill of a personnel who is been vested with a job and a team to complete the objective of the task presented. In this context Somech and Drach-Zahavy (2004) suggests that the leaders are the people who dose the right things while managers are there in the business to do things right. Nevertheless, Upadhyay (2014) observed that the leader to be effective in their offerings to the business needs to develop a vision and communicate the same to the team they are handling to achieve the best of active participation to achieve the objectives and tasks as vested on the team. Therefore, Knapp (2007) opined that that a Manager’s role is to develop the team coordination and integrate the members in a team through various ways so as to achieve the values, vision or objectives of the business as desired and expected from a manager like me. In such a case the requirements of a good manager would be to be fully aware of the skillets of the team members so that the tasks can be delegated to them as per their competence and thereby allocate tasks and coordination to have the desired results. Hence in the context Peyrat-Guillard and Gliaska-Newea (2010) suggested that a competent manager is a leader who knows what to communicate to the team and hence formulate the team charter that guides the further application of team work. Application of Leadership and team Management skills This application of Leadership skills to achieve an effective management that involves the team members with the right job and empower each in the team to develop and foster the team coherence towards a desired direction. Somech and Drach-Zahavy (2004) in this context suggests that the different theories like McGregor’s Theory X and Y, Motivational theories, communication and listening skills are key in having an effective leadership application in the business. Therefore the Manager as an effective leader needs to have regular communication and strategy setting meetings which acts as a feedback session those aids in evaluating the development needs of the team, to ascertain the development need along with reward and recognition schemes to bring in benchmarking of performance and motivate the team in performance excellence. Nevertheless, Robbins et al. (2010) argues that managing discipline, inter personnel coordination and objective clarity are the most important aspect of the skilled Manager and leader. Over and above the skills of developing the assertiveness and good negotiation skills along with identifying and integrating the team member understands of the business stakeholder’s expectations and delivering them the best outputs from the resourced provided by a manager stays the most important skill of business growth and sustainability in the long run. Innovation and Creativity: Role of Interpersonal Communication Introduction The skills of interpersonal communication is a very effective and key skill that a manager in contemporary business environment. The effective communication fosters the interpersonal relationships those in turn acts as an effective tool of business management strategy and generates feedback for improvements. Communication can again be further subdivided into verbal, nonverbal, visual, expression like aspects those acts as the management’s tool of employee mood interpretations and helps in developing strategies to revise policies and procedures likewise to facilitate better outputs. The Communication and ability to interpret makes the changes required in the business that makes it more efficient and competent. Innovation and Creativity: Communication and Adoption of Ideas Business as an activity of various tasks accumulated to complete the process needs communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate the activities undertaken and thus achieve success in tasks and projects undertaken. For the manager in contemporary business domain an individual needs to possess great deal of objective idea generating skills that reduces the level of ambiguity among the listeners. Knapp (2007) in the context of Innovation and creativity suggested that for an effective manager the ways to carry the message across in verbal or non-verbal communications styles. The ideas needs to be dispersed where the listener gets the contents distinctly where the listener can be reflective and clarified about the contents to give success to the reasons for which the communication is made. Nevertheless, Jones and George (2010) observed that the skill of cross cultural communication too is a necessity of the modern day managers as the global business needs a uniformity of interpersonal behaviour consistency. Further, Blowfield (2012) grievance management and employee evaluation for performance measurements also needs a good skill set those interpret the ideas as given by the team member s well to act upon. Application of Innovation and Communication skills The feedback mechanisms as used by the business are more vibrant than the previous day ways of Idea generation and procedural changes with the advent of the social media which serves as a tool for instant communication and feedback collection tool. Hoffmann and Weill (2011) notes that the concept of the ‘Employee Voice’ has become more prominent in the modern-day feedback gathering which has made the manager’s role refined where each individual personnel’s voice of dissent and ideas gets a place of expression. Therefore Simon (2010) concludes that the current management style of objective setting for a business in coordination with the team about the new creative ideas to have generated the desired skilled employees thus retain the skills of the people making their involvements with the business more objective oriented. The level of penetration of the messages as the manager, I would wish to communicate that the ideas and innovations for betterment, creative involvement along with penetration of the messages among the employees reach well and there is a uniformity and clarity of understanding of each individual’s role in a team. As proposed by Leon Festinger in 1960s the Cognitive Dissonance Theory where the new personnel in a new environment tries to fit in with a certain level of discomfort, therefore the Manager’s attribute to induce the new man in accordance to the organizational culture is a skill that’s expected out of them as a part of their skills in managing and integration of team. Exchange of ideas, flexibility of ‘symmetrical exchanges’ of inter departmental and business and stakeholders relationship and involvement development I would build and develop the same easily in this process. Strategic Thinking: Innovation and Entrepreneurial Abilities Introduction The skills sets for the managers in the current global business scenario needs the managers to be effectively involved in the idea generation and new innovations in the processes which accelerates and provides solution to the businesses to keep its competitive edge. The analytical skill of the managers makes them efficient in taking appropriate solution to problems by analyzing every aspect of the actions with its pros and cons. Thus the strategic approach in an appropriate manner aiding the business and making the managerial abilities to have an edge that makes me a manager more accepted by the Employers as on day. Skills development for analytical and Strategic outlook The skills that the business expects from their managers are dependent upon the scope of work that the manager needs to perform. The managerial ability for new innovation and idea generation needs a very good knowledge about the laws and functional aspects of the business operations. The thorough knowledge of the business acts as a source to understand and thus evaluate the manage needs for changes those may improve the efficiency of the processes the business follows. The in-depth knowledge of the market and competing firms and their strategies are to be well versed so as to develop the innovative strategies those create the brand differentiation in terms of value offerings to the market they operate in. The feasibility analysis skills, skills to identify and forecast the future of the business and the opportunity identification are all the skills that a manager is expected to develop. Application of Innovative Analytical skills The skill sets of the managers in such a case proves to be an efficient asset that helps the business to develop an edge over other businesses and thereby create ideas those keeps the business sustained and enhance its market potentials. Peyrat-Guillard and Gliaska-Newea (2010) observed that the Innovations in terms of ideas those changes the production processes making it simplified and cost effective generates revenue in cost savings and also fosters an organization wide involvement to voluntarily generate and share ideas for better output that has direct effects upon the Business-Market relationships. Again, my application of the new venture ideas facilitates my strategic entrepreneurial mindset where the business continuously evolves and develops a culture to stay ahead of its competitors which have a long term value perception among the business stakeholders. Conclusions The diversity of the group to form the Cultural formulations needs to be created where I as the manager would act as the facilitator for such group interactions and strategic policy implementations. The application of the aforesaid skill sets in business management helps the globally diversified businesses to form a uniformity of organizational culture development. Therefore the new age business managers need the skills and ideas that make the personnel attractive for perspective employers and add value to my Managerial skills.
