Introduction Workplace violence and insecurity is a unique problem but recently common in the retail environment. Industrial facilities and much service business have established basic perimeter for defense against any suspected threat. Workplace violence has received increased attention from the public and the law enforcement professionals. The acts that fall under this rubric include violent behavior in the workplaces, insecurity in the industries as well as the damage or loss of property in the retail centers (Subramanian, 2006). Threats, intimidation, bullying, intimate partner violence, sexual assaults, and homicides fall in this category. Nonfatal workplace violence is a more common phenomenon than others are although there are reported hand-full incidences of workplace shooting. Homicides in workplaces are a common incidence in the United State’s workplaces. Industrial insecurity falls in the category of workplace crimes and is a subtle indicator for potential violence in the workplace. Industrial Security Industrial security is a program established to safeguard classified information entrusted with the United States industry. The program includes government industry partnership to protect certain information indented for a social or federal benefit. The industrial security program is the responsibility of the department of defense to protect the commercial, industrial, governmental, and institutional property (Subramanian, 2006). For instance, the United States combines the best security guards to ensure the security practices are put in place. The outcome of this has been a consistent growth in the long-term relation between the industries and clients or workers. Protecting people, assets, and profitability is an important aspect of any business. The industrial security aims at reducing or eliminating the risk attached to any business organization. Most of the industries especially in the United States create their industrial defense through intense technological application. This industrial security accredits, certifies, and ensures a continuous business progress. Retail Loss Prevention This is a form of private investigation in to retail theft that focuses on the general inclusions like, shoplifting, pilferages, embezzlement and fraud check (Christman and Charles, 2008). The operation describes a number of methods that reduce the amount of loses in any retail enterprise. Most of the retails have established physical inventory methods that check on to loss methods like shrinkage and any internal theft. Shrinkage can occur through employee theft, shoplifting, and paperwork error. These activities actually unfold to larceny incidents that add up to billions of dollars of loses. The unskilled persons who work for minimum wages undertake internal theft and they done succumb to whatever motivation advanced by the business. Highly visible security programs are necessary in order to reach these types of employees. Theft prevention in business enterprises requires simple but complicated system in the merchandise handling and transactions points. The most effect way to reduce the internal theft is by the business failing to employ the potential thief or problematic employee in the outset. Workplace Violence Workplace Violence refers to the violence that originates from employees or employers and acts as a threat for the employees. Workplace violence concerns directly the staff and the management. Violence leads to poor morale, and poor image for the organization for the organization making it difficult to execute the daily duties (Kerr, 2010). Violence is a functional behavior and utilized by certain individuals to attain certain goals or attain a tangible benefit. Workplace violence can take different forms like, criminal violence where individuals who have no relationship to the organization perpetrate the violence. They normally aim at access to cash, stock or perform other unlawful acts. Service user violence is another form of workplace violence where the individuals who receive a certain service perpetrate the violence in order to raise frustration for the service delivery (Baron, 2006). Worker to worker violence occurs between colleagues, supervisors, or managers of an organization. This source from grudges between specific employees or staff members, who perceive that the treatment they get is unjust. Individuals outside the organization perpetrate domestic violence but the perpetrators do not relate to the employee. The source of such violence is mostly from the workplace because the offender often knows where the victim is, at different times of the day. Annotated Bibliography Cooper, C. et al. (2005). The book ends in citing the possible steps taken in case the violence occurs in an organization. Paludi, M. et al. (2006). Understanding Workplace Violence: A Guide for Managers And Employees. Westport: Greenwood Publishing Group. Paludi talks about the immeasurable increase in the frequency and the intensity of violence in the workplace. He agrees that risk factors like situational stressors are increasing in the current business environment. He integrates field management of the workplace violence and offers practical strategies to manage it. Kerr, K. (2010). Workplace Violence: Planning for Prevention and Response. Jordan Hill: Butterworth-Heinemann. This book argues that violence has become a more prevalent and pervasive fatality in the recent years. Kerr quotes homicide as an ultimate cause of death over women. He outlines the solution of workplace violence through life examples of witnessed incidences. Privitera, M. (2010). Workplace Violence in Mental and General Healthcare Settings. Sudbury: Jones & Bartlett Publishers. This book suggests that workplace violence is sources from mental setting. It suggests that law enforcement mechanism and cross-disciplinary are effective methods of controlling violence in the workplace. The book ends by condensing the vast literature and rendering operational mechanisms to control violence. Christman, J. & Charles, S. (2008). Retail Crime, Security, and Loss Prevention. Jordan Hill: Butterworth-Heinemann. This book provides intense information on retail crime, security, and loss prevention in a business setting. The book introduces security gears in the prevention of these crimes. It discusses topics ranging from the investigation and counterfeit currency. Kresevich, M. & Greggo, A. (2009). Retail Security and Loss Prevention Solutions. Boca Raton: CRC Press. Greggo and Kresevich propose that the amount lost through retail theft is about $36.6 billion annually. They say that organizations spend millions of dollars on theft detection and prevention devices but it still occurs among the employees. He ends the book by posing a question of how this theft still occurs among the employees. Purpura, P. (2007). Security and Loss Prevention: An Introduction. Jordan Hill: Butterworth-Heineman. This books addresses on security and loss prevention. It aims at spreading the awareness and the need for preparedness in the considerations in the gross calculations. The book addresses the increased demand for the homeland security due to the increased world terrorist events. Subramanian, S. (2006). Industrial Security Management. This book focuses on the provision of requisite knowledge to the top-level managers and security professionals by making them familiarized with the latest advances of security management. The book gives nine provisions for planning and organizing security operations in the control and management of the business. Siljander, R. (2008).
