It should be noted that only academic literature has been used in current study – referring to books and academic journals; non-academic literature has been avoided aiming to secure the credibility of the study’s findings.

Apart from the literature research that has been also used in this study; the empirical research employed in this study is of two different forms: a) qualitative and b) quantitative. More specifically, case studies referring to the study’s subject will be presented and evaluated – as a qualitative research tool. The quantitative research method chosen for this study is the survey, which will be conducted through a questionnaire.

1.3 Research Data Collection Methods

The research developed for this study is based on two data collection methods: a) primary data collection has been chosen in the following targets: a1) to gather data that will reflect the current status of the issues under examination and a2) to increase the credibility of the study; the primary data collection method involves in the survey conducted for this study; b) a secondary data collection method has been also employed helping to cover potential gaps regarding quantitative research – based on primary data - involved in this study; the secondary data collection method refers to the identification of case studies related with the issues explored through this study.

The research hypotheses on which this study is based are analytically presented above – in section 1.1; these hypotheses are tested for their credibility, i.e. they are verified, through the following techniques: a) by reviewing the material included in the literature published on the issues to which the research hypotheses refer, b) by examining the data retrieved through the survey (quantitative research) conducted for this study and c) by checking the assumptions included in the case studies (secondary data) employed in this study’s qualitative research part. A deductive approach (also known as ‘to the p-down approach’) will be used for verifying the research hypotheses; in other words, the theories related with the issues under examination will be primarily reviewed and evaluated; then the research hypotheses will be examined using the findings of empirical research; assumptions will be then produced on the issues under discussion; in accordance with the above, the verification of the study’s hypotheses will start from general rules (theories) and proceed in order to reach specific arguments – as derived from the test and the analysis of the study’s findings – in the context described above.
