The process of managing and guiding people is known as leadership. It is a process of socially influencing other people. They motivate other people and help the organization in achieving its goals and objectives. Leaders analyze the situation of the organization in detailed and based on that they develop strategies; assist other people in following right path. There are different types of leadership styles which facilitate the leaders in guiding people. Leadership style depends on the culture of people. Culture of people varies as per their countries. Therefore leadership style is different in various countries. In this essay the leadership style of Japan, Korea and China are discussed in detailed. All of these countries are in Asian continent but these countries follow different leadership styles. Leadership style in Japan Japan is one of the giant economic powers of the world. The country has developed its own leadership and management practices which matches with its culture. This country believes in capitalism ideology. This ideology helps Japan to preserve its culture against westernization. The leadership style of Japan is different from other countries. Power distance among Japanese people is high. Japanese people reside in a collective society. Therefore the leaders of Japan motivate the people in collectively doing a work. The leaders are very much respected by Japanese people. Participative leadership style is mostly followed by the leaders of this country. Another name of participative leadership is democratic leadership. In this type of leadership the team members take vital part in assisting the team leaders in making decision and strategies. The values and inputs of the team members are considered as important by the leaders1. The final decision is taken by the leader but the team members have strong involvement in the decision making process. In Japanese organizations and institution the leaders prefer to work collectively with the team members. The leaders communicate frequently with the team members for achieving the goals and objective of the team. The team members coordinate actively with the team leaders for completing any work successfully. The Japanese leaders always motivate the team members in performing their job efficiently. The opinions and the ideas given by the team members are considered as very important by the leaders. So while developing any strategy or decision the Japanese leaders analyze the views and opinions of team members and select the best suggestion among all. By following participative leadership style the leaders of this country makes the employees feel that they are the important part of the organization and without their involvement the organization will be unable to perform effectively. For this reason the Japanese leaders always involve in boosting the morals of the employees. This influences them to deliver high quality performance. Most of the Japanese managers have strong faith on the skills and capacities of their subordinates which influence them to become a leader2. The participative leadership style of Japan helps the team leaders in managing conflicts among the team members. Strong cooperation with team members helps the team leaders to increase the productivity of the organization3. As per Japanese organizational culture, after achieving the goal the whole team receives reward. This is because all the team members contribute a lot in achieving team objectives. So the organizations provide team reward which motivates both team members and team leaders. Leadership style in Korea Culture strongly influences the activities and behavior of Korean people. Most of the organizations of Korea believe in innovation. For this reason the Korean companies have developed a culture which influences the organizational leaders in developing innovative ideas. Korean leadership style motivates the organizational members in performing their job. In this country the leadership style is closely linked with employee satisfaction, job performance and growth and development of the company4. Korean businesses have many hierarchies. The top managers control the whole organizational process. The leaders are responsible for developing strategies and achieving the goals and objectives of the companies. The Korean leaders expect that their instructions will be obeyed properly by the team members. The leaders maintain a strong communication with the team members for implementing their plans and strategies successfully. The Korean leaders maintain harmony among the organizational people by developing good relationship with them. Transactional leadership style is mainly followed in Korea. In this type of leadership the leaders are responsible to perform certain task or responsibilities5. The leaders divide the task among the team members and communicate them the necessary things they have to perform6. As per the performance of team members the leaders provide rewards or punishments to them. This influences the team members in performing their work efficiently. The team leaders or the managers set goals for the team members. The leaders guide the employees for achieving the goals. In this leadership style the team members follow the instructions and guidance of the leaders for doing their work. This helps them to achieve the goals and objectives of the companies successfully. The Korean leaders do not consider the views and opinions of the team members for making any decision7. The team leaders and managers of a company develop business plans and strategies without consulting with the team members. A Korean team leader spends a huge amount of time in guiding the team members and ensures that his team will deliver good performance which will benefit the organization. He tries to establish a good relationship among all the team members. This helps the team members in enhancing their productivity. The Korean team leaders manage the team in such a way which helps the organizations in fulfilling the interest of their organizational members. The Korean leaders follow strong discipline in performing any tasks8. Leadership style in China China is one of the important developing countries of the world. China is gradually becoming a powerful economic country. The strong culture of China influences business activities and operations of Chinese companies. The Chinese leaders follow the culture of the company and develop the leadership style as per the Chinese culture. The leaders are extremely respected by their subordinates. The decisions and instructions of the leaders are strictly followed by the subordinates. They are not allowed to do anything without the permission of the leaders. The leaders take quick and effective decisions. As per their decisions, leaders allocate the work among employees and guide them to deliver good results. The Chinese leaders are very cautious about their decisions. They monitor the performance of the employees and make sure that they complete the work successfully9. While forming any decision or plan the leaders mostly rely on their personal experiences. The leaders of China mainly follow autocratic leadership style. In this leadership style the manager or the leader form decision by himself. He does not consult with its subordinates while developing any decision10. The leaders impose a strong control over its followers. Subordinates are not allowed to challenge the instructions or decisions of the leaders. With the help of close supervision of employees the leaders are able to understand the capabilities and potentialities of them. Based on these things the leaders provide rewards or appraisals to them for motivating the employees. The society of China supports autocratic leadership style. Chinese culture influences the people to follow and obey leaders for achieving growth and success. Chinese society is highly collective. The country holds its cultural values very strictly. The leaders influence the Chinese people in such a way that they feel motivated to work collectively11. The leaders focus on the cultural values of the country while performing any work. The autocratic leaders of China build strong communication with the employees for making them understand about the goals and objectives of the organizations in a detailed way. They do not negotiate with the employees while implementing any decision or plan. By following autocratic leadership style the Chinese leaders are able to take quick decisions which facilitate them in improving their business process easily12. The Chinese leaders are very commanding. They are very efficient in managing the performance of the employees. Conclusion Leadership style influences the performance, motivation and interest of the organizational members. Based on the leadership style the employees develop relationship with the leaders. Different types of leadership style establish create various impacts on the employees. Leadership styles are closely associated with the culture of the country. A leader follows the leadership style which is supported by the culture of his country. In this essay the leadership style of three different countries are highlighted. The countries are China, Japan and Korea. These three countries are located in Asia but they follow different types of leadership styles. The cultures of these countries are very different from each other. For this reason the leadership style differ from each other. Japan mainly follows participative leadership style. The leaders cooperate with the employees for making any decisions. China follows autocratic leadership style and Korea follows transactional leadership style.
