Teamwork Reflection The Leadership Challenge was very informative, exciting, interesting, and one of its kind. It was full of physical activity, teamwork, and required us to stay in constant coordination with each other. Our group skills were greatly improved as a result of taking this course. We covered a total of six challenges in the Challenge course including the dragons tail challenge, the balance table challenge, the rope swing challenge, the bridge challenge, the parallel bridge challenge, and a challenge that involved climbing a wooden wall with the help of teammates.

Although we lost the first challenge, yet it was the most exciting challenge as we had to run to snatch the flag of the other team; this exercise boosted our adrenaline levels and was a good warm-up exercise. In the balance table challenge, we balanced everyone on a log while putting everybody on it in order of their birth month. This was the toughest challenge as the task was physically demanding. The rope swing challenge was the most adventurous in that all of us were required to stand together on a very small platform, and anybody could fall off anytime.

The bridge challenge was intellectually demanding. The time we spent together trying to find out a way to get everyone across without touching the lava connected us with each other mentally. It took us the longest to cover the parallel bridge challenge, though we learned how to work together as a group in stress and in times of urgency. The last challenge fostered friendly relationships among us as we helped each other climb a wooden wall. The Challenge course was a great learning opportunity with respect to almost all leadership skills in general and teamwork and communication in particular.

In addition, we read a whole chapter based on developing teamwork i.e. Chapter 9. We learned the dynamics of relationships and the interplay of the psychology and cultures of different team members. In Chapter 10, we learned motivation and coaching skills. Knowledge gained from this chapter is of immense use in the contemporary organizational culture wherein existing and experienced employees are expected to train the new and inexperienced ones. Finally, the role of creativity and innovation in leadership was learned in Chapter 11.

The importance of this chapter can also not be overemphasized given creativity is what drives organizations towards success these days and provides them with edge over other organizations competing with them in the market. The experience of the course was memorable. It was extremely enjoyable, though not very easy. Unlike the usual training or learning experiences, this course was directed at developing our teamwork and group skills. Many of the tasks presented to us as challenges could not be accomplished without coming out of the comfort zone.

But it is only when one comes out of one’s comfort zone that one does something new and gets rewarded for it! The course has brought such a revolutionary and positive change in the way I connect with people and the way I work in groups that I feel morally obliged to recommend this experience to everybody.
