Employee Relations Managers and their organizations possess a degree of choice in way that they conduct and manage their relationship with employees and union. As a matter of fact, labour legislations provide each and every employee with a right to not only join, but also participate in a trade union or his or her choice. The role of the labour legislations is to govern workers and employees while also facilitating the relationship between an employer, the employees and a trade union and plays an important role especially in the organization, certification, conducting collective agreement negotiation and in dispute resolution.

In this case where an employer locks out its employees one year and then asks them to accept a freeze in their salary several years later, it would be important for the organization to remember that maintaining employer-employee relationship aim at not only preventing, but also resolving problems involving the employers and the employees that arise out of work situations.
