Management philosophy Introduction My management philosophy involves some of the best management practices that should be observedby the managers when carrying out their duties. Service commitment, self-assessment and flexibility are some of the essential management styles that I prefer. Flexibility during the decision making process plays an essential role in enabling the manager to make the appropriate decisions when faced with different situations (Daft & Dorothy, 12). On the other hand, the ethical values are also important for a manager as it ensures that the decisions made are ethical and can be accepted by everyone. The management model used by the management is also a determinant of the relationship that will be created with the employees. Competency is also required of the employees as it plays an essential role in ensuring that the mangers are able to carry out their duties effectively. The paper is thus a management philosophy regarding best management practices. Discussion As a manager, I prefer an organization that is flexible and the leadership is democratic. According to the participative theory of leadership, the leader should always take into account the input of the others and also ensure that the other people are encouraged to participate and make their own contributions. The use of such models encourages flexibility and teamwork which is essential in enhancing the success of an organization. On the other hand, I would like to work where the organizational culture promotes flexibility and teamwork. This is because a good relationship among the employees can be attained through teamwork and close working relationship among the team members. As a manager and employee, I also prefer working in an organization that has effective communication. Effective communication is an important tool that enables the employees to understand the issues that are taking place in the organization (Hatten, 8). I believe that ethics at the workplace is important and should be considered before making any managerial and business decision. On the other hand, it is also important to note that the brand image of an organization is dependant on how ethical it is. The confidence of the clients is usually enhanced by the presence of high ethical standards. Any form of unethical behavior has negative impacts on the image of the organization. I therefore believe that the concepts of ethics should also be incorporated in an organizational culture of an organization. As a manager and employee, I would not work in any organization that is engaged in unethical practices. An organization should also promote a good working environment for the managers and employees. This should be achieved by ensuring that the lifework balance is maintained at all times. An organization has to recognize that the employees and the managers have other personal issues besides their work. Flexible working hours should be provided to the managers and employees. The productivity of the managers is dependant on their worklife balance. As a manager and employee, I believe that the success of the organization is dependant on the level of motivation among the employees. The employees require motivation from time to time in order for them to feel that they are part of the organization. The motivation should be through rewards that may either be financial or non-financial. The wages and salaries of the employees should be good for the purposes of ensuring that they are motivated to stay bin the company. Most of the employees who leave an organization will always cite poor wages and salaries as the main cause (Longnecker, 13). Recognizing the efforts of the employees is also important in ensuring that they are motivated. Low levels of motivation have the potential of affecting the productivity of the employees within an organization. An organization should also ensure that it makes the employees feel that their jobs are secure. The lack of jobs security impacts negatively on the operations of the employees. I believe that competency is important for the managers and it also plays an essential role in promoting self assessment and service commitment. Fostering teamwork is one of the competencies that are required of the managers. The process of fostering teamwork enables the managers to create a good working relationship with the employees. I would also like to work in an organization where the managers are actively involved on the process of empowering the employees. Empowering the employees plays an essential role in ensuring that the employees are loyal to the organization (Carroll, Archie & Ann, 15). The service commitment is achieved through the empowerment process. It is also important to note that the people empowerment is useful in enhancing their productivity. I would also like to work in an organization that promotes self management. This enables the managers to develop personal effectiveness, credibility and flexibility. It is the duty of an organization to ensure that it selects individuals with appropriate competencies in order to enhance its operations. As a manager and employee, I prefer working with competent people when carrying out different activities of an organization. Analytical thinking and technical expertise is also important in promoting service commitment, self assessment and flexibility. The organizational structure of an organization is also important in enabling the managers and employees to meet the needs of the organization. I prefer working in an organization that has an organizational structure that is flexible and it promotes free interaction among the employees and the management. The employees should also be allowed to make their contributions freely for the purposes of aiding the decisions making process. Flexibility promotes a good working relationship among the employees and the management, which is useful in enhancing productivity (Longnecker, 18). The decision making and problem solving skills are also useful to the managers. I believe that it is important for the manager to be a planner. A planner uses a rational approach during the decision making process and has to use a certain strategy that is planned. During the decision aiming process, the managers have to be professional and flexible at the same time. This is for the purposes of ensuring that the decision made is appropriate for the situation. According to the situational theory, each situation is different and it requires a specific decision. Conclusion In conclusion, it is evident that the manager has to be competent in order to carry out their duties effectively. The organizational also has a role to play in the provision of a conducive environment for the managers. It is evident that the organizational structures and culture is useful to the organization in promoting flexibility, self-assessment, and service commitment.
