Evaluation of an Interview Scenario The Hiring Manager The Interviewer 26-10 Subject: Interview evaluation. Derrick Cardenas underwent through the interview process, whereby his strengths, weaknesses, achievements, and areas of development were assessed. His Curriculum Vitae (CV) seemed efficient for consideration for the job. He has a wide range of capabilities and this is evident from his achievements. His composure during the interview was a clear indication of his confidence and strong interaction skills. He is well learned with excellent verbal and written communication skills. His communication skills are diverse as he is fluent in the Spanish language. Derrick acknowledges the advancement in technology and appreciates that the working environment has been automated. This is the reason for having proficient computer skills in Microsoft office. Derrick has excellent leadership skills from his ability to handle issues step-by-step; that is, prioritizing urgent and most important issues first. This he has proven from his capacity to balance school and work while ensuring that efficiency is not compromised. His leadership skills surpass his organization skills. For this reason, he acknowledges that job delegation is part of the working environment. He appreciates that everyone should create a suitable working environment to maximize their capabilities. His ability to handle difficult situations is an indication that he can work in a team and has team leadership skills. His knowledge on how to handle difficult situation in the working environment indicates that he can work under minimum supervision while maintaining a high level of discipline and professionalism. Derrick understands how to perfectly perform tasks. He explains that he once surpassed his supervisor’s requirements by adding value to an assignment that involved contacting customers using a spreadsheet. Derrick attributes his diverse skills to his educational background. He acquired an Associate Degree of Business Administration as he was working at a full-time job: Again, an indication of his capacity to balance school and work. He agrees that combining school with work can be a hectic undertaking. However, that does not deter him from doing so. He has proven to apply effective techniques on how to handle pressure. He attests that he is slow to react and ensures that he is calm when prioritizing tasks. This ensures that important tasks are carried out first, and meet the required standards. Such a technique is an indication of his ardent leadership skills. Derrick’s attitude is built around patience, honesty, and humility. Such qualities are what the company requires for success. Being in school is an indication of his ongoing and future development. He is a fast learner and is willing to boost his work experience. He understands that the industry is dynamic and requires in-depth knowledge and proven working skills. Being able to handle many jobs at a go explains that he is focused on developing his future career in the company. He is interested to work in the company while still undertaking his studies and this will boost his leadership and organization skills to improve his career path. Yours faithfully Interviewer The Interview Experience Derrick’s Experience My partner, Derrick Cardenas, appreciated the whole experience. Besides boosting his confidence, the interview taught him how to vividly answer only the questions asked; that is, to always be in context to the question asked. He also appreciates that the interview process was a ‘self-marketing’ process whereby the interviewee is required to convince the interviewer to consider him as a prospective employee. He also noted that the questions asked revolved around what he could offer to the company. His strengths were scrutinized and evaluated against his weaknesses. The interview motivated him to evaluate his personality and attitudes. Derrick explained that the interview process requires professionalism and composure. The interview got tough when he was required to explain why procrastination and organization skills were his weaknesses. From his experience, he understood that strengths and weaknesses are not formulated by personalities, but by the approach towards working conditions. Derrick is confident that his performance met the required standards. He explains that his response matched the content of his resume. He also appreciates that his composure and attributes it to prior preparations. Conclusively, he explains that the experience has improved his confidence. My Experience The experience from the interview process was two-fold; as an interviewer and an interviewee. From the interviewer’s perspective, I managed to understand the level of interaction between the interviewer and the interviewee. The interviewer is always in control of the process and indicates authority by initiating the interview. The level of interaction is from top (the interviewer) to bottom (interviewee). I was able to obtain as much information as possible from Derrick through well structured questions. It was evident that he was tensed at first, though his confidence levels increased as the interviewed proceeded. Being an interviewer enhanced my understanding of the process and how to interact with people at different scenarios. My performance as an interviewer was appreciated by Derrick. The level of interaction was primary to the interview process. Derrick was able to express his interest in the company from the way I structured my questions. I performed all my responsibilities as a Human Resource professional and conducted the initial screening for the position. I ensured that the interview was conducted within the 30-minute timeframe. The experience from being an interviewee was the exact opposite of being the interviewer. My confidence level was low. I did not have any idea of the type of questions that Derrick (interviewer) would ask. The naivety of being an interviewee was the primary inhibitor to my composure. My interaction with Derrick shifted from a friendship level to a professional level. Maintaining eye contact, one of my weaknesses, was a constraint to proper interaction; from bottom (interviewee) to top (interviewer). My performance as the interviewee did not meet the interviewer’s standards. I prepared for the interview in the last minute. My responses were not clear as they were too long. I learnt that prior preparation is a significant factor to the overall effectiveness of the interview process. Read More
