This erupted as a personal divergence. Robin Hood assembled a band that would fight for his cause. He wanted the band to be highly disciplined. The main goal & objective of Robin Hood’s band was to unite men with similar outrage like Robin Hood. Robin Hood tried to ensure that these men have an honest commitment and fairness towards the mission of the band. Question 2: Basic organization chart for Robin Hood and the Merry Men Robin Hood structured an uncomplicated format for the band. He acted as the leader of the band and all the vital decisions were taken by him. Lieutenants were appointed and they were given specific works. The intelligence and scouting division was headed by Will Scarlet. He always kept a track of the Sheriff’s moves. He continuously gathered information about the travel procedure of merchants and tax collectors. Discipline among the band members was maintained by Little John. He also made sure that archery of the band was maintained to the level that their job demanded. The finance division was taken care by Scarlock. He did the job of converting ransack to cash. He also looked for appropriate secret storage places for the surplus cash. The Miller’s son named Much served the intricate task of meeting the needs of the band members which was continuously increasing (Gerring 67). Question 3: Basic SWOT analysis on Robin Hood and his situation Strength Weakness 1. The increasing size of the band was an advantage. 2. The band members understood the importance of the rebellion as they shared same grievance against the sheriff. 3. The band members had a sense of fairness. 4. The structure of the band was not complicated and therefore task delegation was not very difficult. 1. The increasing size of the band caused a pandemonium inside the band. 2. Discipline was hard to maintain. 3. Scarcity of food for the band members. 4. The band’s financial reserve was depleting and it was difficult to maintain food requirements of the band members. Opportunities Threats 1. To increase revenue, fixed transit tax could be implemented. 2. The operation can be expanded to other areas of the Sherwood Forest that would generate more revenue. 3. The band could associate with Barons and help them to raise ransom to release King Richard. Difficulties concerning provisions will thus be alleviated. 4. The reign of the sheriff could be ended by the Merrymen by assassinating him. 1. Sheriff’s forces are more organized and disciplined. 2. The band is losing revenue as the rich merchants have started taking alternate routes in the Sherwood Forest to avoid the merry men. 3. The sheriff’s forces can attack the merry men easily as with the increasing size of the band, it has become difficult to conceal their whereabouts. 4. Provisions within the forests are depleting. Question 4: An alternative plan In the current scenario, Robin Hood needs a new plan of action. It may even significantly modify and design alternative strategies to fight against the sheriff. The old plan has now become obsolete and thus needs to be enhanced for better results. There has been a change in the external and internal environment and therefore the old ways of generating revenues are not working any more. An alternative has to be planned to avoid the financial crisis that the band is going through. The organization of the band has to be restructured to reinforce discipline within the band. The band members should not misalign from the goals that they are supposed to achieve. Thus a new mission has to be designed to overcome the current problems that the band is facing (Pahl and Richter 143). Question 5: Expanding the band’s operations to a larger area around Sherwood Forest The expansion of band’s operations to other unexplored parts of Sherwood Forest can be an effective strategy. This could help the band to mitigate some of the difficulties faced by the band. This would help the band to significantly grow in size. Revenue generation will be enhanced and the resources obtained from the Sherwood Forest will be sustainably maintained. Some other alternative method of revenue generation could also be looked into by studying the unexploited areas of Sherwood Forest (Pahl and Richter 143). Question 6: Imposition of a fixed transit tax It should be ensured that a permanent transit tax is not imposed permanently on transportation within the Sherwood Forest to offset the decline in revenue. This would lead to a conflict between Robin’s merry men and the villagers. The conduct of the merry men would be harmed and the organization’s moral will be down casted. The permanent fixed transit tax may force the local people to abandon their support towards the band and therefore important information would become difficult to gather. Maintaining discipline within the band would also be difficult. Therefore, to meet some immediate requirements of revenue, the tax could be implemented temporarily for a short period of time keeping in mind that it does not affect in detrimental consequences for the local supporters (Yin, 123). Question 7: Accepting offer of Barons Pros of joining Barons: Robin would be given forgiveness in the future if the operation becomes successful. Robin would be able to restore his position in the realm. His accomplishments would be rewarded. Cons of joining Barons: Robin is not accustomed with conspiracies associated with the law. He could involve himself into some dubious circumstances. If the operation failed, Robin will be forced to lose give up everything. This could be life threatening for him and his band members (Flyvbjerg 68). Question 8: Killing the sheriff Killing the sheriff is an appropriate plan of action. King Richard will not be released from the prison as a result of this act. A new sheriff may be appointed by Prince John who would be equally detrimental in his actions like the previous sheriff. Killing the sheriff would make the condition adverse and not result in betterment of the organization. Question 9: Course of action The viable strategy to follow would be to expand vision and join Barons to ensure feasibility of plans in the long term. This would help Robin to accomplish personal goals and also serve his realm (Lynn, Gupta and Sussman 125). Question 10: Action steps A prospective coalition should be established with Baron by delegating efficient members of the band to discuss the matter. Efficient logistics have to be supplied by Barons that would help to make a strategic plan for understanding the matters of law. Robin would provide with efficient human resource for collecting funds for implementation for further plans. A great partnership can be established between Barons and Robin where Barons would fulfill the investment needs and Robin would provide with other resources to raise funds. Question 11: Organization Chart Recommended Question 12: “Men, I know you have been wondering what we are going to do about our situation. I have just come from a meeting with the leaders of this band. We are going to take the following actions immediately to help address our situation: First, the discipline of the band has to be reinforced. Second, new avenues for revenue generation have to be looked into Third; formation of a coalition with Barons is an immediate necessity. For the long term, what we want to do is to serve the realm and make it free from the hands of the sheriff and restore peace in the kingdom.
