Career Interests College Career Interests Every person needs to make choices about their career and for the better choice of career; the person needs to realize what seems to be interesting for him/her. Choose the best option for the career; the process includes the essential steps like, identification of the areas of interest, skills, talents and the abilities. The career assessment tests help the people to identify and chose what interesting option for them is. I will be utilizing the tests like Keirsey temperament test Sand Career Direction inventory to identify which areas will be the best option to choose as my career. The Keirsey temperament test consists of the personality questionnaire which is designed to help the people to understand their skills and abilities. The Keirsey temperament sorter is the kind of test which allow the people to recognize their abilities, skills and kind of nature they embrace for their career. According to the Keirsey temperament test, there are four types of temperament which the people cleave to as a type of their career; these temperaments include the Artisans, Guardians, Idealists and the Rationales. The Artisans are the type of people who can be stimulating, directive and can have the impact over others and the surroundings, they are manipulating and influential. The category of artisans includes the roles like operators and the promoters. Guardians are the type of people who are the organized and the concrete and are concerned with their duty and responsibility. The greater strength of the Guardians is their ability of logistic findings. These people can be the best administrator. Idealists are the people with the great passion of seeking their own identity and are the empathetic. Their strength is the diplomatic behavior and they focus on the personal growth. The category includes the mentors like teachers and the advocates. Rationals are the people of strategic skills, they are the objective people and mostly they are finding the self control. The category includes the engineers and the coordinators. (Butler, A. C. 1990) The above four temperaments are described by Keirsey who called them as the character types. The four temperaments are further divided into sixteen character types which are assessed through the scale of the skills and nature of the person. According to the question based assessment, my temperament is idealist. The idealists can be enjoying the role of mentors and the advocates. These people are the inspiring and are passionate to develop their own skills and abilities. They seek the chances of learning more and more and are expressive. The idealists can be the counselors and on the other hand they can be the champions. They are efficient and active in listening to others and finding the solutions to the problems. The temperament of the idealists is independent, inspiring and the unifying. (Turner, S. L., Steward, J. C 2004) The second component of my idealist temperament is the character type of healer. The healers are the people who listen to the problem of others and try to heal them through their tactics of counseling and curing as they are continuously seeking the ways to reduce the stress and confusion of people. They work efficiently and try to manage the other people around them. The healers seek any kind of the opportunity to listen to the problems of others and resolve them. The other assessment tool I used was the career direction inventory which focuses and examines the aspects of the individual personality, interests and the values. The assessment of the personality is based on the point of uniqueness, the interests are the liking of the person and the values are based on the perception of good and bad. The test looks at the assessment of the personality through the John Holland’s theory who identifies six different approaches for the selection of the career. The approaches which identifies the person’s personality includes the artistic, attentive, realistic, investigative, social, conventional and the enterprising. The result of the assessment showed that I have scored higher in social, artistic, attentive and conventional. The social approach leads to the helpers, artistic to the creativity, attentive to the servers and the conventional leads to the organizers. The people who are social can be participating in different social activities to develop new ideas and find solutions to the problems of others. The artistic type of people is expressive and they behave original and pure. They express their ideas through various means. The conventional type of people is supervisors and they make and follow rules to achieve their goals. The attentive type of persons is the counselors or the helpers who work in organized manner to help others and try to remove all the stress of surroundings. The other aspect of the assessment was the interests of the persons in such areas or the fields of career. The questionnaire consists of the questions which focus on the recognition of the interests. The interest types are divided into 12 occupational interests and the score is described in the percentile. My areas of interest are as following: Administration 80% Clerical 44% Food services 25% Personal services 40% Art 56% Health services 88% Writing 45% Sales 34% Industrial art 76% Outdoors 61% Teaching/social service 95% Science 57% The area of interest which is higher in rank of my assessment is the teaching or the social service, which means that I enjoy helping others and instructing how they can learn more and solve their problems. The third aspect of the assessment is the values, the assessment of the values are associates with the views of the person as what they think is good and on the priority in their lives. Here is the list which indicates my assessment of values. Intrinsic values Achievement Independence Relationship Challenge Ownership Community Knowledge Autonomy Helping others Using abilities Self expression Supervision Extrinsic values Recognition Support Work conditions Leadership Company policies Short commute Power authority Supportive supervisor Variety change Advancement Stability Compensation The persons who are highly motivated by their own can better enjoy the career and the benefits of their performance. The motivation is the factor which led a certain kind of interest in the individuals to adopt the specific area or field. The assessment of my career and personality indicates that I can work well in different areas including the health care manager, chief executive officer and the director. The above career options are related to my skills and interests of my career as these offers the knowledge and experience, and the opportunity to achieve the goal of the identification to the whole world about my skills. Keeping my skills and the interests in my mind I have selected the health care manager and the education administrator. H. 2007) The career option of the manager or the education administrator, both are the strong options for choosing as career and the way of employment. I guess, both the career options are strong and promising and can be the next logical step for me to consider either health care manager or the education administrator. References: Butler, A. C.
